Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Scott.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from Toronto, Canada. When I married my husband, a Nashville native, I traded in city life and relocated to what at the time felt like a very small town.
I’ve got to be honest, I was not prepared for the culture shock of moving from Toronto to Nashville. And it took me a long time to acclimated.
Just when I started to feel my feet beneath me, I was hit with an autoimmune disease diagnosis that literally knocked the wind out of me – physically and mentally.
As a longtime personal trainer + nutritionist, I was ashamed; terrified that having a chronic illness would cost me the trust and credibility I’d built throughout my career.
I was afraid of living with the side effects of medication and even more so of the impact of the disease itself.
But this wasn’t the first challenge I’d been faced with. And I was fiercely determined to avoid becoming a statistic.
Over the last five years, I’ve taken a deep dive into thyroid autoimmune-focused nutrition and radically shifted my idea of what it meant to look, live and feel healthy.
I put what I’d learned into practice; I embraced the idea of healthy vibes beyond a temporary ‘diet’ and despite what doctors insisted would be my fate, I slowly helped my body begin to heal.
I ditched medication and I’m now on a mission to change the face of chronic illness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy journey. Relocating to a new country can very much leave you feeling like a fish out of water.
Even as an upbeat and outgoing person, I struggled to connect. And adding a chronic illness diagnosis while trying to create and build my business didn’t make things easier.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a holistic nutritionist, personal trainer and yoga teacher.
Today, with my wellness coaching business, Simply Defined Fitness, I help women tune into their bodies so they can be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to their health.
I empower women to use strategic nutrition, fitness and mindfulness to conquer their wellness struggles, beat the odds and find their unique, healthy vibes. Not in spite of their obstacles, but because of them.
I’m honestly most proud of the work I’ve done to help women in their wellness journeys, being featured in two well-known fitness magazines and winning the Small Business Excellence Award 4 years in a row. 😉
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
This is an interesting one. I don’t consider myself to be a risk-taker BUT when I think about it, I have definitely taken risks.
Moving to Nashville was a risk. Leaving a cozy administrative job to follow my passion and start my business was a risk. This question makes me realize that when it comes to my passion and authentic happiness – I’m definitely a risk-taker.
