Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Covington.
Hi Thomas, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My entry into entertainment started in high school as a repeated failure from all sorts of attempts. I was a terrible singer, actor, comedian, etc. I gave up and took a more practical approach to life. I joined the military shortly after starting college. While serving in the military, I became the “house party music guy”. Also, I began working in weddings very late in my ten years military career as a videographer as a side hustle. I learned two things at this time: 1-I HATED editing video and 2-LOVED music! So, I sold all of my camera gear and began the life of a “DJ”. I was probably one of the worst wedding DJs in Nashville in 2019, but I was armed with YouTube and time. I decided to go out on my own and create my own entertainment company in January of 2022: DJ Who Wedding and Events Entertainment, LLC. COVID-19 was the best thing to ever happen for my entertainment company because it gave me a platform to be “seen” while the rest of the country was closed. By the close of 2020, I was a sponsored DJ with a monetized YouTube channel. So, 2021 was a way to expand. In 2021, I added the fan favorite Jump Married, which is the all white bounce house brand that has been widely accepted in Nashville. Along with my other brands The Neon Photo Booth Experience, Cake Mapped, and Tiny Bubbles, my vision today is to continue to push quality and unique entertainment to Nashville and the South East Region as a whole.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting an entertainment company two months before the COVID-19 closure appeared that I was going to be forced to close before I really got started. Also, learning how to use special effects, roll bounce houses, create trade importing pipelines, etc. posed to be unique challenges as well. It took a lot of hard work to build the five brands that I have today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about DJ Who Wedding and Events Entertainment?
I have five brands. The first, and the original, is DJ Who Wedding and Events Entertainment, LLC. It is a mid-tier to high-end DJ, Lighting, and Special Effects company that elevates weddings and private events to the next level. My 2nd brand is The Neon Photo Booth Experience. This business specializes in creating unique photo booth experiences with tailored props, backdrops, and/or neon signs. The third addition was Cake Mapped. This business is the most unique service in Nashville. The premise of this service is to create custom animations for cakes. Imagine watching your cake glitter, then flame, then snow. It is only limited by the imagination of the client. 2021 added Jump Married which is the all white bounce house company. 75% of clients are EPIC kid’s parties, but the other 25% are extra EPIC weddings. Lastly, I created a business names Tiny Bubbles to create a new offering for “GLAMPING” in Nashville. Hang out in a climate-controlled bubble tent and watch the stars!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love making other people happy. Entertainment only made sense for my personality. Happy people make me happy! We have so much in the world to worry about, but a good party can help people forget the world for a short time.
