Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Attigliato.
Hi Ariana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born a teacher, so I started out my professional career as a high school English teacher and Debate coach. After five years of teaching, I transitioned into the Human Resources profession. I realized that it was not possible for me to live a healthy and well-rounded life as a teacher. My mother, who is also co-founder and an HR guru and I had always dreamed of owning our own business. It took us six years of concentrated effort, a life coach, my maternity leave and COVID to figure out we should start our own HR consulting company. We had both outgrown toxic workplaces and truly just wanted to help small to mid-size businesses with no HR departments thrive. Being consultants allows us to cut out all of the politics we experienced in larger organizations and truly impact change in companies ranging from healthcare to construction.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It took two years of serious physical illness and mental duress for me to be brave enough to leave the career I was born to do. It has taken a lot of therapy to rebuild my identity as well. I still miss my students, but ultimately leaving teaching was the best form of self-care I could have ever done. It’s allowed me to find another passion in Human Resources. It took about a year to transition from education to HR. Everyone thought it was great that I was once a teacher but did not think I possessed any relatable skills to perform any other job function, so I decided to go through temp agencies to get my foot in the door. I knew once an organization got to know me, getting a position would not be difficult. During my career in corporate HR, I experienced ageism, glass ceilings, sexual harassment, incompetent leaders and toxic work environments. My experiences have absolutely shaped the woman and professional I am today. They fueled my desire to own my own business. Now I can help other businesses avoid treating their employees the same way. The other struggle my mother and I encountered was having the capital and passion for starting our own business but not the idea.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in helping small to mid-size businesses with no HR department manage their employee life cycle from pre-employment to termination or retirement, stay compliant with state and federal regulations and create amazing work environments. Our daily interactions and decision-making are led by our core values of leadership, authenticity, creativity, and relationships.
We are proud to offer customized pricing and services based on individual business needs. All consultations are free, and we are happy to do an HR analysis for a relevant proposal. We are happy to meet businesses where they are with customized packages that meet their budgetary needs. Clients can decide between project-based pay, an hourly rate and or a monthly subscription. We also realize that many HR departments are understaffed, so we are happy to offer our services to larger corporations for different project needs.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We officially launched our business in February 2021 (even though we registered with the state of TN on 9/11/2020), so we would just like to get our name out into the community as a reliable resource. If people would like to work with us, we are only an email, text or phone call away. We also want to be active community members who support local businesses. We would be glad to partner or collaborate with efforts outside of HR. We intend on building an empire of amazing HR support for our clients.
