Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Lemmons.
Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
All art mediums have come and gone within my life. I’ve gone from oil to acrylic to watercolor and currently dabbling into digital art. This is by far my favorite art medium that I have experimented with and I knew from the start that I wanted to make something of this. Before the pandemic, I was a Chiropractic Therapist. While I was working, my husband and I conceived our second baby (first living.) I knew that I wanted to stay at home with her for a while but wasn’t sure how I was going to do it, when I wanted to return back to work, etc.
Then COVID hit. Talk about a pregnant nervous wreck. I had no choice but to stay home, so I tried to enjoy it the best I could and make something of it. I picked up my iPad and Apple Pencil and fell in love. I started off making cute cartoon portraits people’s families, then started taking requests from people like dogs, houses, etc. Currently, I specialize in anything your brain can tell me to do! I love doing digital watercolor and stationary. My favorite is children’s invitations; they melt me! I am growing my social media platform in Instagram and try to stay as engaged as my busy mom life will allow me to be with my wonderful clients and followers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Artist’s block is a REAL THING. Sometimes your creative juices give out and you need a breather. Ive learned to try to be okay with that and listen to my body and mind, giving myself a break. I’ve definitely experienced this in my career so far but that’s something a little beach time and R&R can help fix!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in digital art and graphic design. What that means is that I digital draw designs, portraits, logos, branding material, stationary, etc. and send them back to the client in digital form for them to have ownership of and print however and whenever they would like. I am the most proud of persevering, even when it was tough, and making this business happen.
I was blessed to be able to use my time in quarantine to dedicate to growing my business. I think what sets me apart from others in this industry is the social media community that has grown with me. The amount of support, encouragement and engagement I receive from my followers is astounding and keeps me going! Seeing posts of the final product framed or an invitation going to their family members in the mail makes me so proud to have been a part of that. They could have chosen any online platform to get something made and chose to put their trust in me.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is persevering no matter the outcome.
