Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryoji Ono.
Hi Ryoji, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am from Japan and came to the USA in November of 2020. I studied and worked in Japan as a Judo therapist for eight years before moving to the states. My wife and I were only visiting her family in America at the time when my wife’s father tried my therapy out and became convinced my therapy could benefit Americans. I didn’t speak any English so my wife went to every session with me in the beginning to translate.
Our business has grown all by word of mouth and social media. We began in March 2021 and have seen over 300 clients in America in four months all through house calls. My reason for studying Judo therapy was due to playing baseball in high school and wanting to heal my teammates when they were injured. I knew then that I wanted to help and to fix people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not being able to speak English is definitely the largest obstacle. I want to be able to explain how the body works in English but I’m still more comfortable speaking in Japanese. I’m slowly improving my skills in English and hope one day to be able to communicate all I want to say. Another obstacle is that Americans do not know Japanese Judo therapy, but we are bringing a completely new method of natural healing to a country starving for natural health so we think that’s why we have been so fortunate to have grown so quickly.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ono Body Therapy?
I am the only Judo therapist in Tennessee. In Japan, we are on every corner, but largely unknown in America. Judo therapy is a natural therapy using only the senses for pain management and increased range of motion. We travel to people’s homes in the middle TN area and heal and offer relief for various ailments such as lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain/tightness, joint pain, TMJ, headaches, frozen shoulders, low range of motion and tightness. Judo therapy is not a massage. It’s a treatment for pain management.
What makes you happy?
I am happy when I can heal others and know that they can live pain-free life. I have always loved helping people. Doing my job makes me very happy. I work six days a week and see up to eight clients a day.
