Life & Work with Seemi Rizvi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seemi Rizvi.

Hi Seemi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I remember my struggle to come to the USA in 1997 because of my arranged marriage and then raising four children without having any village for them that I truly believe is needed to raise a child. I did not have any family here, and not many friends too.

One day passing by Centennial park with my kids, I found myself doing henna for people who were attending some kind of fair. Nobody is a stranger for me anyways, but finding the courage to start doing henna on them at the event I was not even part of, is a totally different story. People there apparently loved it so much that they started asking me for my nonexistent business cards. I did not even realize that this was the stepping stone for the business that I have now. I feel extremely blessed to be a successful entrepreneur and intuitive henna artist. I provide empowering henna-art sessions from different platforms, like Cosmic Connection near Belmont University, Aroma G’s in the Donelson area, almost all big fairs in Nashville and from my home studio in West Nashville.

My deepest desire is to show people their own awesomeness, and these sessions, even over the phone, give me the chance to fulfill this desire. While I am sketching or painting for my clients in my home studio, I feel that the art I do for them is still coming through them while they are on the other side of the phone. It’s the blueprint of their gifts and awesomeness that we talk about in these sessions. Not only to use it for themselves but also to make this world a better place by sharing it with others.

These sessions are to truly find out the real purpose and passion of life. While connecting with our own gifts, awesomeness or, we can say our own higher self, the light within, can surely not only pay all the bills but also make this world a brighter and beautiful place to be. I did not know at the time that my mere interest in henna; that is always somehow part of different celebrations In Pakistan; where I came from, will turn into the business that I have today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it was a smooth road, but then at the same time, I feel it’s our attitude towards life. Life for me always offers a glass that is mostly half full or half empty, but it’s all how we look at it, makes a big difference. I do really love people, and that love energy really helped me and my art to be in demand, mostly through word of mouth.

I truly believe that there are so many great artists out there but the reason my art made it to the Frist centre, governor’s house, Watkins College of art and to many celebrities in the music business and big corporates; UGGs, Converse shoes, etc, is because of my true desire to serve people, see the best in them, and not only talk about it but sincerely enjoying them as a treat for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do many forms of art, Including poetry and lyrics. Having blessed with an opportunity to write with a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ric Sandler, and getting it released on iTunes, Spotify, etc. I think it happened because of writing about real challenges of life in very simple, organic yet poetic form, allowing it to flow from the heart, sometimes broken, sometimes strong.

Understanding that life is a journey and finding a way to find joy in its ups and downs. Accepting darkness while searching for light, combating with self-judgment and shame yet connecting with the God within. Once knowing all that, continue to try to remember in each step of our life. Specially while interacting with others as an entrepreneur or an artist focusing on how to offer that light to others.

As an artist using a little bit of knowledge that I have gained, I specialize in offering through my sessions. So either through henna, visual art tarot reading or art over the phone. I use all that experience to help my clients to let go of lower emotions that do not serve them and bring out the higher emotions to comfort them, which makes me different than any artist who are not yet doing that.

I am proud of helping people through my henna sessions when I see so many times tears of joy rolling on the cheeks just by seeing their own awesomeness through me. Specially when I’m part of a small gathering with friends, listening to each other’s readings and confirming parts of reading that sometimes clients themselves cannot see in them. At times when they come back to me and share how their life has transformed and they are able to enjoy more after my reading sessions that I did maybe two-three years ago.

What’s next?
I don’t have big future plans. I try to be in the moment. I feel very content in different aspects of my life. And that’s what I want to give to all my clients, friends and family in general.
