Today we’d like to introduce you to MaKayla Renee.
MaKayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So I got my first wig in 8th grade it was simple and easier to wear than getting sew-ins all the time. I continued to wear wigs into Highschool, eventually upgrading to human hair/Virgin hair extensions. I always made sure my hair looks crisp, even wore a bonnet to school in the mornings to keep my hair from proofing up lol fast forward, I graduated Highschool and went to college, realized that wasn’t something I wanted to do forever and prayed about something that I wasn’t sure about… making wigs. I woke up the next morning after I prayed and saw a flyer for a sewing machine class and immediately knew that’s what God wanted me to do. I asked my family for the money for the class, they all pitched in and my parents and grandma drove me to Michigan from Tennessee for a weekend class. From that moment forward, I have been passionately perfecting my craft and growing my business + other businesses.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, slot of learning lessons and forks in the road!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a custom wig designer (a person that passionately constructs and styles custom wig units for each person’s liking). I specialize in natural-looking easy to wear wigs! I also have a level of expertise on hair extensions and products! I am most proud of my dedication and time I put into my business. I am known for my wigs not looking like wigs and looking very natural. My attitude, my perseverance, and my story is different than most.
What were you like growing up?
I was a good kid that had trouble expressing myself. I had many friends always more than I ever needed or wanted. I played sports, cooked, made clothes, did her just a little bit of everything!
