Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
East Tasty Candy Company started out about three years ago as a hobby. Knowing I was looking for a creative outlet, my wife got me a candy making cookbook for father’s day. My first batches of candy were strawberry lollipops and vanilla marshmallows. After years of perfecting my recipes and giving away candy to friends and family, I decided to create East Tasty Candy Company. The name is a play on our location of Each Nashville, Tennessee. I now sell fun & unique flavors of gummies, caramels and marshmallows locally and ship nationwide.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Rolling out a new business has not been a smooth road. I have a full-time job and a family so juggle East Tasty on nights & weekends. I am learning about food regulations, social media marketing, and logistical challenges. Knowing that I am creating a delicious product that makes people happy makes it all worth the effort.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a custom candy maker specializing in unique flavor combinations. I mainly make marshmallows, caramels, and gummies. I’m probably best known for my cocktail gummies in such flavors as Rose, Rum & Coke, Margarita and Pina Colada. My marshmallows are light and fluffy and made with real vanilla bean, cocoa and strawberries. I believe a homemade marshmallow is life-changing. The sea salt caramels are creamy and melt in your mouth. Being a small operation, I can create custom candy flavors for any occasion, no matter the size.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I get my inspiration from flavors and candy that I grew up with and that are delicious to me. I spend a lot of time speaking with different foodies and content creators on social media, particularly Instagram and Clubhouse. I really look up to Alton Brown and Martha Stewart for their ingenuity and imagination.
