Community Highlights: Meet Nick Carrier of Best You

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Carrier.

Hi Nick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In between my sophomore and junior year of college, I had a conversation with my high school personal trainer who asked me if I had ever been interested in becoming a personal trainer myself. And I hadn’t ever thought too terribly much about it, but I said I was interested. I then got my certification that summer. And then, my junior year at the University of Georgia I started coaching at Orangetheory Fitness. I was a finance and risk management double major when I graduated and was going to start with a finance job. I was originally going to be a mortgage lending officer for a company – I was going to do six months of training in their Atlanta office and then be able to transfer to the Nashville office after that. Then the Nashville aspect of it fell through, I told them I was no longer interested but moved to Nashville anyway. When I first got to Nashville, I accepted a job as a recruiter with an employment agency but quickly realized I wanted to give a fitness career a go. I quit the job after two weeks and haven’t looked back and won’t ever look back. I went back to coaching at Orangetheory Fitness here in Nashville and formed my own small business called Best You. I have a burning passion to get closer to the best version of myself and to help others do the same. I’m dead set on discovering the framework one can take to make the best version of themselves a reality. I started The Best You Podcast in October of 2018 and have, to date, released 311 episodes. I do fitness goal-setting programming with people, I do run coaching, and I do life coaching.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a struggle in a sense that as an entrepreneur, you don’t have anyone telling you what you should do. There’s no directions to follow, no blueprint to go by. You have to define success for yourself on a daily basis. Which in one sense is freeing, but another sense gives you massive uncertainty. It’s taken me a long time to determine what my business model actually looks like, and that uncertainty has been the biggest mental struggle I’ve experienced.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Best You, we will help 1,000 people reach their fitness goal by 2025 because no one deserves to be frustrated on their fitness journey. And because when individuals have the ability to set a fitness goal and then achieve it, they have more confidence and ability to improve in all areas of their life.
