Community Highlights: Meet Abby Reuther of The Nashville Guide

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Reuther.

Hi Abby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started this for fun as a creative outlet. A way for me to explore Nashville, try new places, and discover local talent. I had no intention of it growing or turning it into a business. It was pure fun for me. People took notice of what seems like overnight, and it just took off. Before I knew it, businesses were reaching out asking for me to post about them. For months I did it all for free, but as my inbox grew and I spent hours working on it after my corporate job, I realized I needed to turn it into a business and get paid for my time.

From there, I’ve listened to what followers wanted and made business decisions based on that. Followers asked for a book, and I published a book. Followers asked for a website/blog. I created one. Followers asked for merch, and I made some.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, I would post any business that wanted to be featured. I’ve learned that’s not what works for my followers. I now only post enterprises that I know my followers will like. With that said, not every single person will enjoy everything I do, so I’ve gotten negative comments and opinions. At first, each one felt like a knife to the heart, but I’ve realized it’s part of having a business, and you can’t let those couple of negative comments take over.

With the growth and start of every business, there are bumps along the way. It’s how you grow, learn and evolve.

We’ve been impressed with The Nashville Guide, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Nashville Guide is a local media company. Our primary media outlet is Instagram, and that’s where our business started. We also have Facebook, website/blog, and book.

We focus primarily on featuring local restaurants, shops, and events. We’ve become “the go-to” for visitors and locals as they explore Nashville. We love to hear when followers check out the places we recommend and tell their friends.

There are many Nashville-based accounts now, but we were one of the first ones, so we’ve been lucky to maintain and grow our presence.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
We recently started using the Creative Studio in Facebook to schedule posts for both Facebook and Instagram. That’s been a great tool to plan.
