Life & Work with Micah Pressnell of Pressnell Auto Detailing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Pressnell.

When I was sixteen, I quit my first job at a clothing store to seek employment at any car dealership in Cool Springs that could hire me. I found my way to Mercedes-Benz of Cool Springs and got a job portering and detailing.

Eventually, I worked for a man who owned a 3rd party company and trained me in car detailing. He later quit the account at that dealership and took one other employee and me to his account at the Bentley dealership across town. I got training and experience on exotics for a couple of years at that dealership and with my boss while doing mobile work.

Later, I found myself working in the sales department while a freshman in college doing management training as well as working towards being a General manager for the dealer group years down the road. COVID-19 cut me out because I was part-time and in college. While at home that spring, I decided to start my own detailing business. After designing flyers, getting my business license and insurance, and buying all my equipment, I started detailing cars out of a pickup truck I borrowed from my dad. Initially, I walked through neighborhoods for days at a time, canvassing my flyers to get business and build any client base I could.

One year later, I find myself working on some of the most expensive and rare vehicles in the world for the client base I built with the help of many of my generous friends and connections. God has given me more than I could imagine over the past year of my business ownership, and I can’t begin to imagine what else is in store for me. I am so thankful to live here in Tennessee and have friends who helped and supported me through my first year of business. I wake up every day with new challenges and opportunities, and I always put forth my best efforts to take advantage of what God has to offer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were many times when I wanted to give up in the beginning. Giving away services and underpricing myself to get any clients. There were weeks where I had nothing to show except several days of canvassing. Developing a perfect system and finding quality products to cater to specific situations is a never-ending challenge. When working on cheap economy cars or multi-million dollar hypercars, I always want the same perfect results.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am proud of the growth and development of my business over such a short period. One year and a few months is not very long in the grand scheme of things, but I have been able to work on cars and get clients I never thought I would have. While this business was not something I thought I would do for very long, I still put forth my best efforts. I want to thank my family, clients, and coworkers at Carlock for their help and encouragement with my business. I would not be here without them and God’s help.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was with my friend Sam, collecting and playing with Hot Wheels while watching British Top Gear with Jeremy, James, and Richard. I saw how they were so happy with their careers in the automotive industry on that show, and I knew I had to find a way to be like them.
