Today we’d like to introduce you to the BlueAshes Rock band.
Hello BlueAshes, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After being quite successful (7 singles on the radio and 1 being number one in the charts), Shila Mariposa decided to quit music and keep up with her life in Miami, FL, in 2016. After a year of no music creation and a different lifestyle got the chance to see a random band on a Saturday night in Miami Downtown.
Same Saturday night, Colombian (South America) guitar player Alexis Zuniga was performing in Miramar, FL, and saw a tall blonde taking a picture of him. She liked the jazzy, funky style of the guitarist. She socialized with the female singer of the band and decided to contact, days after, the guitar player (A friend of the singer on Facebook). Alexis tried to get the picture, but the blonde was gone.
Monday, through Facebook, Alexis got a message from Shila; they knew they saw each other at the show without realizing it wasn’t the same show, wrong person. They chatted about music and projects until they realized they were not the ones they were supposed to be. So Alexis admitted he wasn’t that guitar player, but he would be on board if she were open to making music. And Shila said: “Things always happen for a reason.” And now they live in Miami, married with a baby aka BabyViking, and a whole recorded 12 track album (Checkmate) plus 1 country-rock single (Masquerade). They reside in Nashville, TN, looking for a better music scene, mostly for a better rock music community.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s maybe, like 90% of the time, a hard road. Creating a band and recording at good quality and fast, it’s not easy. Music and other arts are always difficult to get a living out of. Everyone knows many stories about successful musicians that came from the bottom of nothing. Plus, being a duo without having more members rowing together makes it a little hard for some aspects of the project. You have to hire someone for everything, sound, performers live or video, etc., etc. the good thing about being just a duo, Is that it is easier to make decisions. Oh, and having a baby in the road, huh, not easy at all. She’s the center and strength in our lives.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Shila Mariposa is a singer-songwriter. Alexis Zuniga is a guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Videomaker for BlueAshes.
Is very satisfying to be able to create art, music, songs, and videos for the songs. It started because technology these days is more reachable, and hiring professionals is quite expensive. So we are the ones producing everything in BlueAshes ourselves. We think the combination of personality between us makes us different from others, two very different worlds going the same way.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
We took two big risks. One was leaving everything behind to be together as a couple, no matter what or where. And the other was leaving Florida without knowing what we would find in Tennessee. We didn’t have a house to leave when moving back, and we rented one on our way to Nashville. And we don’t regret any of those two decisions. When you do something, you do it with love and passion, and surely everything will be alright.
