Life & Work with Kyla Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Thompson.

Hi Kyla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a 22 years old born and raised in Milwaukee, WI (home of 2021 basketball champions, btw). I moved to Nashville, TN after my first two years of undergrad on faith that I could establish myself in the south. My mom and her siblings are originally from Memphis, which is about 3 hours away, so I wasn’t too far from “home”. EYEdol Her came during the Pandemic. After a long hard year of trying to expand and create new streams of income, I felt stuck. We had been on lockdown in practically all year and none of my previous plans worked out. I started with a skincare line. I knew I wanted to do something to enhance women’s confidence; I knew that the girls had to bounce back from such a long year. I then about the about doing lashes and making that a way to beautify all women but at an affordable price. Finally, I invested in myself by taking a class and getting certified. I did not know exactly what I wanted to do when I completed the class- I did not have a name ready or anything.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would not say I’ve had obstacles. I just took on challenges and learned many lessons. One of my biggest worries was getting my clientele up. I had absolutely no support in building my name beside a few friends but I did not let that stop me. Being a city where you do not know many people, you have to understand that your work speaks for itself and I think that is what makes me stand out from other technicians. I knew that the only way EYEdol Her was going to reach more than 50 people was to make the sets I did look amazing. My goal was to make sure that the girls are always asking “Who did your lashes?”. I took that on as a challenge to make sure I present quality, top-tier work. I set personal goals for myself every few months, even if it was to gain “x” number of followers by a certain time period. Setting goals for myself and making sure I achieve them really helped with my confidence. It was difficult at times because I had to work very hard to get there, and unlike anything else- nothing comes easy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a growing lash technician, that is simply building my brand. I specialize in all set types- classics, hybrid, volume, wispy. My personal favorite has become the volume set. It’s not too much, it’s just enough. I am mastering the art of working with different eye shapes, lash lengths and styles and absolutely love when my clients try new things. EYEdol Her is a play on words, a slang I created was “I doll Her, so you can Idol Her”. Me, creating a lash look, enhancing a doll so the public and everyone who sees her can idol her and admires her beauty. It’s all in the EYE’S. I feel as though individual lashes will forever play a big part with beauty for women, and I hope to expand my business and talents beyond a service, but as a gift to some women; to those who may not have the luxury of doing that every so often. I plan to take action for the less fortunate once I am put into the position and I strongly believe that EYEdol Her will allow me to do so. Check out my IG for pictures!

How do you think about luck?
None of this was luck, it was God. That is who I thank every single day. I prayed and kept faith. Through every trial and tribulation, I never gave up and always believed in myself.
