Rising Stars: Meet Alison Ryan of Green Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Ryan.

Hi Alison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was 18 years old in New Jersey and New York City. My grandmother was born and raised in Nashville, TN so I grew up hearing about how awesome this city was. When she passed away I wanted to come to the city that she loved so much. Once I got here, I as well-loved it so much and never left. I opened a hair salon and the rest is history.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it was not a smooth road at all. I went through not being able to find a job and pay my rent to strongly contemplating moving out of TN. I had to work on my accent, my electricity was turned off and I had to go back and forth to New Jersey to take clients to make money. 3 salons and 7 years later here we are!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty is blowouts! I am so proud to be one of the first blowout salons in Nashville and to still be gaining popularity with locals, tourists, brides, and our country family. I also started a scrunchie line about 3 years ago that has really taken off. You can find them at thedryhousenashville.com

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the beauty industry has been on the up and up for the last 50 years and I love being a part of it. I have seen a huge focus on self-care within the past year and cannot wait to see what’s to come. Slow and steady wins the race.
