Community Highlights: Meet Josh Berry of Red Oak Building Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Berry.

Hi Josh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Iowa oldest of 10. I knew I wanted to be in the music business at the age of 8 as I was involved in productions. I moved to Nashville in 1995, right out of high school. I toured, ran production companies, and started my own audio, lighting, and video company in 2009 as I was passionate about relationships and giving people opportunities. I brought on business partners in 2014 and was thriving, doing $600k net per year and 3000 shows per year. I was then pushed out of the company on June 1, 2009, due to philosophies in numbers vs. relationships. Six months later the company sold due to lack of profits.

During the non-compete, I continued a hobby that resulted in a renovation company with a GC license in Commercial and Residential. This has currently been all word of mouth and continues to grow. We currently have 10 people on staff with over 100 subs with 32 active jobs and 48 projected clients producing $3,000,000 in revenue. We plan to grow this healthily while not letting clients suffer from long periods in the renovation industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first answer would be, my Grandfather is 85, and I am 45; however, he still looks 45. I have the same genes. Secondly, after Covid-19, it has affected the workforce. It is challenging to find subs that show up on time or ever. There is major price hikes that can be unattractive to clients. However, I have options for clients to finance not based on credit but assets and show the property’s value after completion.

We do Renovations, Decks, and Fences. Dependable care and quality craftsmanship for projects large and small.

We have been all about word of mouth up to this point. People know we show up and do quality work!
