Today we’d like to introduce you to Amory Hermetz.
Hi Amory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I first got interested in magic after seeing David Blaine on tv when I was 5 or 6. I loved magic, but I never actually learned a trick until I was 13. I googled how to do a card trick one day to show my family. I learned the trick, performed it, and got addicted. I would research new tricks every day to practice. For years, I studied magic on and off, only performing for close family. When I graduated high school, I began to get more serious about performing for people and getting out of my comfort zone. I had gotten a full scholarship to The University of Southern Mississippi based on my magic competency. (…Joking about magic part). I planned to major in biology and go into functional medicine. After one semester, I realized magic was too much of an addiction to just be a hobby. I made the decision to pursue magic as my career. Because of my scholarship, I continued with my biology education before switching my major to theater… because it was WAY easier than biology, and I was never going to use the degree regardless. While I was in college, I booked a local restaurant, performing close-up magic for guests while they waited for their food. I did this several nights a week for a few years and began booking gigs locally and out of town. Within 2 days of graduating, I was packed and on my way to Nashville. I arrived with no connections and no work. Within a couple weeks, I had three restaurant gigs on the books, one of which was House of Cards. My main focus was performing as much as possible to refine my magic. HoC began to book me a lot, so I dedicated almost all of my energy to creating and refining new material. I did this for three years, before setting out on my own in May of 2021. This was the only way for me to progress further in my career. I had always booked corporate events through my website and through connections, but I wanted this to be my main focus. …so, this is where I am now. Full focus on the pursuit of something greater.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It never is. Everyone has struggles. It’s part of the game. I have an autoimmune condition that erupted my senior year of high school. I had been on a prescription for years to control my symptoms, but it suddenly stopped working. I was in a terrible place, and my doctor told me there was no solution. My last resort was researching and altering my diet, and this was the only thing that made any difference. At a certain point, I quit my prescription cold-turkey, and this caused hell to be unleashed. I’ll spare you any details haha, but it was a terrible struggle. Motivation level was at zero through much of my college life, but I forced myself into certain situations. I didn’t want to regret a lack of action later. Slowly, my issues began to improve over the course of years and is now a much smaller problem. My autoimmune condition was such a huge and complex issue that any business problems I had seemed relatively simple in comparison haha.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
