Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Perry.
Hi Maddie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey! My name’s Maddie and I was born and raised in Southern California – about an hour east of LA. I grew up living a pretty average life, going to school, playing sports, hanging out with friends, etc… When I was 16, I decided to pursue acting after watching Hannah Montana because, let’s be real, who didn’t want to be Hannah Montana when they were little? I was a terrible actress so that gig didn’t last long, but I did score a role on a popular YouTube series called the “React Channel.” Basically, I’d watch videos about viral trends and give commentary on them – a super simple concept that people really loved! People would watch me on those videos, find me on Instagram and follow me there but, at the time, influencing wasn’t a thing. I was still posting “pic collages” with overly filtered photos, not giving a care in the world about the creativity behind the app.
When I went to college, I made more React Channel videos and my following continued to grow. I’d always been a fashion guru so people would always ask about my outfits and that inspired me to start my blog, blondetobronze.com. It was just a hobby at first – an outlet to share what I loved and connect with my audience. After college, I worked for a travel public relations firm in Santa Monica where I first discovered what an influencer was. I would plan trips for these people on social media and they would share photos/videos to their platform promoting the hotel, restaurant, etc… I remember planning a trip for a girl who had the same amount of following as I did at the time, and thinking “if I really pursued creating content, I could be on the other side of this!” So that’s what I did. I quit my full-time job, moved back home, and focused on my creativity. It was the best thing I’ve ever done!
That was four years ago now – it’s insane to think back to how it all started. Now, I have an audience that I connect with and share my life with on the daily. I share everything from the ups and downs of my life, my daily looks, recipes, trips, beauty tips, to my dating life and my journey moving across the country to Nashville. It’s like I have a family in my own personal corner of the internet and I feel so, so lucky!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting off was definitely tricky. Social Media Marketing is a very new field and trying to maneuver around this new career with no one to help guide me was a real learning experience but I wouldn’t change a thing. I would consider myself a “go-getter” and starting my own business was such a growing experience. I don’t think I could have become the person I am today if I were doing anything else!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I started off, I was told how important it was to have a niche. You had to pick – either travel, fashion, lifestyle, family, etc. but that didn’t really work for me. Part of why I love what I do so much is because I just get to share my life. Whether I’m spending the day doing home renovations with major fails or I’m going through a breakup, trying on some new clothes that I got, sharing a killer sale I found, just went on an awful date, or cooking a new recipe, I get to share it all. I think that really helps me connect with my audience because they get to see that I’m a real, imperfect person who goes through the same things they do. My goal has always been to leave people feeling better than they came when visiting my Instagram page, YouTube channel, etc.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I absolutely love the What We Said podcast! They share fun, light-hearted stories and always share insight on how they run their business, improve in wellness, and live balanced lifestyles.
