Inspiring Conversations with Jill Thornell of Classy Cactus Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Thornell. 

Hi Jill, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
We began the summer of 2020. Our oldest son, Hayden, wanted a lemonade stand. However, we didn’t think it was the best idea in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. That is when we came up with succulent gift boxes, we would be able to mail. Hayden helped design the cards for the boxes and we advertised to the local community. Once we realized that it was a hit, we started selling on Etsy. 

A year later, I left my corporate job of 10 years to help grow Classy Cactus Farm. We have mailed out over 12,000 succulents around the United States, have our own website, and have opened up a small retail location for our local community. We also hold succulent workshops each month with a different theme. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When we started selling the succulent boxes, I wasn’t looking at creating a business. I thought it would be something Hayden and I would do for about a month and then fade away. However, that wasn’t the case. Our main goal is to create smiles with our plants. 

It’s been a great experience for Hayden. He has learned about taxes and reinvesting into the business.

We are here to create smiles one plant at a time. We specialize in Succulents and Cacti. We want to create a business where we are creating positivity in the world. We have something for everyone and have the capabilities to ship plants around the United States. 

We have shipped out many large bulk orders for hospitals, nursing homes, and pharmaceutical companies to name a few. We have the capability to customize any of our boxes to a company’s needs.
