Community Highlights: Meet Alie Miller of Thistle Sweets TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alie Miller.

Hi Alie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Thistle Sweets started unintentionally in my college apartment with a kitchen aid mixer I had bought myself for Christmas.

I had just had my first macaron on a trip and was determined to see what all the hype was about when it came to making them.

Fast forward a few months and a few failed attempts, I started posting pictures on my Facebook and Instagram to show my friends and family, to my surprise, people asked to purchase them and overtime TS grew till I was selling at our local farmers market and it was helping me pay for school books!

I never imagined being a bakery owner, but French macarons give me the outlet to challenge myself and be creative.

Now, Thistle Sweets has an adorable A-frame brick in mortar, where my shop manager Rachel and I make and sell 12 different flavors every week!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m grateful every day that Clarksville has a great community of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Even though there is definitely a learning curve when it comes to managing and running a small business. The people that I have met throughout the years have helped immensely with questions and concerns I’ve had regarding my business! Without them, I would have had way more struggles than I did!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Thistle Sweets, we focus solely on French macarons! Some people find it wild that we only make one product, but what’s amazing about French macarons is that they are limitless!

Their base is made of just 3 simple ingredients, egg whites, sugar, and almond meal.

From there you can literally do anything.

We love the concept of taking a well-loved classic dessert or sweet and infusing them into these small 2” cookies.

At our shop, we are currently only open from 1-6 on Tuesdays and Fridays with occasional pop-ups throughout the month.

Our love for making different flavors is why we change up our flavor list weekly! Preorder on our website or swing by our store and shop our display cases, we’ll have 12 different flavors some of which are GLUTEN FREE and DAIRY FREE.

We are also big fans of decorating and piping our macarons into fun shapes! You’ll need to check out our social pages to have a look!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Not only are we passionate about providing our customers with unique and delicious treats we also strive to provide the freshest macarons possible. All of our macarons are freshly baked and never frozen, so that way when they go home with you, they have the longest life possible!

Having them freshly baked also means a tastier cookie with a better overall texture!
