Exploring Life & Business with Laura Moll of Laura Moll Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Moll.

Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My dad gifted me my first DSLR camera nine years ago when I traveled to Lima, Peru. I lived in Lima for about five months, and during my time there I photographed anything and everything. I was enamored by the way I saw things differently and creatively when using my camera.

As soon as I got back to LA, where I’m born and raised, I began looking for opportunities to get involved in the business side of photography. I began assisting other photographers that I admired and I leveraged every opportunity I could get to learn more about photography, both the artistic and the business side. I slowly began building a portfolio and a client base of my own.

From there, every opportunity led to one or two more opportunities and my business has multiplied exponentially. Although it’s been a long journey, I feel like my business took off overnight, and I never imagined that I would be where I’m at today. I’m incredibly grateful for my amazing clients, both in Los Angeles and in Nashville where I now reside, who have turned into friends, and the dream opportunities that continue to come my way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been fairly smooth, but it definitely has not been obstacle-free. Most of the struggles I faced were internal. Rather than physical roadblocks, I sometimes struggle with being over-critical of my own work and where I’m at in my business. Criticism can be hard to handle, even if it comes from yourself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Laura Moll Photography?
I’m a lifestyle and editorial photographer specializing in events, maternity, newborn, family, branding, and social media content. I work with many of Nashville’s and LA’s musicians, actors, influencers, and creatives. My work has been in People Magazine, US Weekly, E! News, InStyle, WWD, The Knot, Martha Stewart Weddings, and more.

A common piece of feedback that I get from a number of my clients is in regards to my attention to detail. I’m a sucker for all the little details, whether it may be the way a couple holds hands, the mother of the groom crying during the ceremony, a newborn’s eyelashes and little feet, the way a family interacts, the details that go into a client’s business, etc.

The two things that make me most proud of my business are seeing my work in major publications, and positive feedback from my clients. I really treasure my clients and the lifelong friendships that I’ve built with them throughout the years. I don’t just show up and take pictures, I become fully invested in my client’s lives, brands, and stories.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned many lessons due to the pandemic. One lesson that I’ve learned was to think outside of the box and get creative on how to continue making a stable income. I’ve also learned to slow down and really appreciate life all around me. Sometimes when you love what you do, it consumes you and it can make you feel stuck or like you don’t want to do it anymore… for me, I became more intentional about my shoots and what I would say yes to.
