Daily Inspiration: Meet Anna Pittman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Pittman.

Hi Anna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I got a job delivering flowers when I moved to Tennessee in 2017. After delivering for a year, I started designing while not knowing a thing about flowers. I was sort of just thrown into it and taught myself as I went. After a while, I decided to start my own business while still freelancing for other florists which I still love to do. I didn’t start doing custom cookies until earlier this year. Another one of those learn as you go things!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth but luckily, I’ve had some great support. It is hard getting your name out there in such a big place while being somewhat new to the area. Also, when you’re doing anything creative it can be hard to stay inspired at all times so you have to figure out the best way to handle that for yourself. Burnout is no joke so you have to have other things to turn to when that happens.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
It took someone else pointing out what my style was before I even realized it. I definitely like to do more sculptural pieces when it comes to flowers. Weddings can tend to get a little repetitive as far as color and style so I love when someone comes to me with anything different. I’m usually most proud of the pieces I make for no one, unfortunately! Working on something that’s just for me, gives me no stress and has no expectations. A unique vintage vessel makes an arrangement more fun too. It’s always surprising what you can come up with when you’re not put in a box. It can be so easy to feel like you need to fall in and be like everyone else but what’s the fun in that?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are so, so many florists in Middle Tennessee that have taught me, helped me, cheered me on, challenged me, laughed with me, and made this business so much better to be a part of. The “community over competition” mentality is such a great thing to see! We make each other better and I have made some great friends along the way.
