Life & Work with Kylie Hull

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Hull.

Hi Kylie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I first picked up a camera when I was thirteen. A family friend let me shoot with their DSLR while hiking in the smoky mountains. I was absolutely mesmerized as soon as I heard the first open and close of the shutter.

From there anytime there was an opportunity to go out and shoot I took it. I pursued darkroom photography while in high school, and later attended The University of North Texas where I received my BFA in photography.

Now I am shooting for brands all over the country, get to work with amazing entrepreneurs, and being a part of intimate weddings all over Nashville.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This past year has not been the easiest, and I am just one of many who struggled with the pandemic. Before I started my business I was working full time as a social media manager and photographer for a florist and plant shop in Fort Worth, Texas. When Covid hit- I was let go, and that was the huge push I needed to pursue my own career as a full-time photographer.

At first, it was extremely scary, and didn’t think I would ever succeed, but now my business is thriving and I couldn’t be happier.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a portrait and product photographer in the Nashville area. I have a saying from One Artist’s Hands to Another. It means that I work hands-on with the creatives I work with and treat their work as my own. I know how hard people put into their work or brand and I feel honored that I get to shoot and be part of it.

I am know for playful extermination with light and color. I am inspired by film photography and try to emulate that in my work or add 35mm to my shoots. I am truly most proud of how much I have grown as a photographer, business owner, and overall person in the last two years.

What sets me apart from others is I truly care about everything I get to shoot and who I shoot for. I am always willing to try new things and experiment to get unique and interesting imagery.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Since people are spending more time at home I feel like prints are going to be on the rise and people will want photos that feel like art pieces.
