Life & Work with Israel Garcia of Murfreesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Israel Garcia.

Hi Israel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started back in 2004 working for a tv network back in Ecuador, my Country. I started as a Production Assistant and since then. My career developed in ways I never expected. I became a producer of numerous commercials and a couple Movies in Ecuador. In 2012 I came to the USA with my wife Martha, and I went to MTSU to get my degree in film production. After graduating, we opened our own Video Production Company, Bad Iguana Productions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
First struggle in the USA was the language, it took me a good year to learn it enough to communicate without help of my wife translating. The industry is very competitive, that’ is a challenge for any new filmmaker in the area.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to be creative and developed concepts for music videos and commercials. I have created some award winner short films. I also was offered the opportunity to teach film at Middle Tennessee State University in 2020, this is my second year as an Adjunct Instructor on campus.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I took was to leave everything I had built in Ecuador, but it was worth it. I have a beautiful Family and more opportunities to create some art on screen.
