Life & Work with Elizabeth Nord

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Nord.

Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
While in college at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (and taking photography courses at night) getting my economics degree, I began my photography business part time. I was encouraged by my professors to start the business and one of them ended up being a long time mentor and friend. I photographed my first wedding in 2011 and was immediately hooked! I loved everything about it. A few years later, I decided to take my photography business full time and moved to Chicago with my husband. I spent 6 years there building my business and photographing the most amazing people and weddings. In 2020, we moved back (although I still go back to Chicago often for weddings and sessions) and am so excited to call Tennessee our home once again!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anyone that owns their own business will tell you that we all go through struggles. Luckily, all of mine have been relatively small, but I would say moving my business to 3 different states (all completely different markets) has definitely given me my fair share of challenges over the past 10 years of being a photographer/business owner! Having to start over from scratch every few years is not easy, but not impossible either.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer based in Nashville and Chicago. I specialize in weddings and family photography. As a former bride and mother myself, I understand the needs and desires of my couples. I know how to connect with people and love to make them feel natural and at-ease while I’m photographing them. I am most proud of the fact that I have photographed people of all walks of life. Lots of different cultures, stories, orientations, and religions. They’re all so much fun to learn about and celebrate. I have been featured in many online and print publications including Martha Stewart Weddings, BRIDES, The Knot, Modern Luxury Weddings Chicago magazine, and many more.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Absolutely! I’ve taken many risks in my business and believe it’s often necessary to take risks (or I like to think of it as stepping out of your comfort zone) to move your business forward. To make your dreams a reality. I guess you could call me a risk taker!
