Community Highlights: Meet Maggie Berghoff of maggieberghoff.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Berghoff.

Maggie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was in my young 20s, attending Vanderbilt University to be a Family Nurse Practitioner, I had massive health problems – seemingly “out of nowhere.” At first, I was just bloated, constipated, tired, and headachy all the time. Then, I started swelling and gaining weight. My hair was thinning, my periods were nonexistent, and although on the outside I appeared healthy, I was most definitely NOT.

I bounced around from doctor after doctor – all referring me to some other specialist to try to figure out what was going on in my body. No one could figure it out, and simply left me with medications to take to try to cover up the symptoms… but no answers as to why this all was happening, and how to actually fix it for good.

Eventually, I was diagnosed with a long list of things, like PCOS, hypothyroidism, gut complications like bacterial overgrowth and malabsorption, nutrient deficiencies, severe immunodeficiency disorder, and more. Even then, zero answers as to WHY this was happening and what the root cause of it all was so I could fix it.

This went on for a few years and symptoms continued worsening. I graduated Vanderbilt as a Nurse Practitioner and worked in a traditional medicine setting for 2 years full-time as I simultaneously went back to school at the Institute For Functional Medicine to learn more about how to actually heal my body, and specialize in functional medicine. I knew that I was the only one who cared enough about me to figure this all out… and that’s exactly what I did.

Although my doctors all told me I would be on medications lifelong, and gave me no guidance at all in how to heal, I was able to completely reverse every one of my diagnoses, get off all medications, and feel better than I have ever felt in my life. I even ended up having three babies naturally, when my doctors told me I was infertile.

After healing my own body with Functional Medicine, I knew I couldn’t continue working in that traditional medical setting. I wanted to help people on a deeper level to evaluate what’s going on in their body, rebalance and re-wire their pathways, boost their immune systems, detoxify, and overall reach their highest potential.

I spent maternity leave with my first child learning everything I could about business and marketing and launching my own online functional medicine consulting business. It sky-rocketed quickly, and I was able to leave my job for the hospital later that year. I began seeing clients from all around the world, helping them to rebalance their bodies, inside and out.

My online health consulting business grew quickly, and I was featured for my work on national and local television, in documentaries, and in hundreds of articles and magazines. I was also invited in year one of entrepreneurship to join Richard Branson at his home in South Africa to talk about upcoming impactful projects and participate in various philanthropic events. Other health professionals started to notice. After a few years of receiving countless Instagram DMs and emails from other practitioners asking me to teach them how to build their own business in the online space, I finally began to mentor others in business and marketing.

That’s when my second business, a business, branding, and marketing agency, was born.

We have now had and incredible number of health and wellness entrepreneurs and brands build, launch, and grow their company through us, and it has been the most rewarding and exciting journey!

I’m also a mama of 3 young children, ages 4, 2, and 1!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I am so aligned with what I am doing, every day is exciting and I genuinely love it! All the challenges, fears, and setbacks have made me a better person. I have grown more than I could have ever imagined, and I feel I’m just getting started! There’s so much more to come, and I’m looking forward to it all. The journey of starting your own companies is not easy, but it’s the most rewarding experience and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’d say biggest challenge by far was building a team. I did grow quickly and had never intended on building my own companies. This was never “the plan,” but of course whatever is! Hiring, training, and leading a team came with many lessons and challenges.

The company prides themselves on providing the highest level of services and co-creating personalized wellness programs that cater to the client, and allow them to boost their immune system and balance their bodies so they can thrive amidst the stressors of everyday life and modern-day living.

Maggie also has a fast-growing business and marketing agency where she and her team provide services to help other new business owners and entrepreneurs build, brand, and market their company in the online space.

Right now, I’m most proud of my first traditionally published book, Eat Right For Your Inflammation Type: The Three-Step Program to Strengthen Immunity, Heal Chronic Pain, and Boost Your Energy. It’s available for pre-order now, and officially is in stores everywhere December 28th! It’s all about reducing inflammation and healing your body with specific home optimization techniques, daily detoxification methods, and my Eat To Treat Method for how what, and when to eat for best health and energy.

I’m also super proud of our ever-expanding team! I couldn’t do this without them, and it’s amazing to see them embrace our mission and work hard together to expand the companies.

We recently also launched an online nutrition course to help everyone reduce inflammation and rebalance their body with food, and new in-house services for our business consulting company, such as advanced branding, website build, and social media management!

Exciting things happening, and I’m forever grateful.

Our many offerings at my functional medicine company, Celproceo! We have the highest level of services and truly cater to the client. We have services ranging from coming to your home to optimize your home and kitchen for wellness, to 1:1 packages where you work 1:1 with a practitioner for a period of time, to on-set nutrition to keep everyone fueled, happy, and healthy, to health support on the road or while traveling to keep you on top of your game!

Having flexibility to spend so much time with my kids, while helping to make a massive positive effect on the world. I love being a mama, AND I love being a business owner.

When a health client hires us, and become their best version of themselves, everyone around them is impacted positively by that. They’re less stressed, happier, and all-around healthier! Similarly, when a business client signs on with us to build their business, it allows that person to step into a life of their dreams and find fulfillment in their career. They become more aligned in life, which impacts everyone around them, too! I just love thinking about making those little – but big – differences in everything we do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’m a huge fan of mentorships. My biggest piece of advice is to find someone out there doing something similar to what you want to do and hire them to help you get there. It’s the fastest and most sure way to success. When I want to get to a new level in business, I’m doing just that. Community and connection is also everything. I think it’s extremely important to “be in the room.” Every time I attend an event, conference, or even party, I leave with some awesome win-wins and new friends with similar ambition and goals as me!
