Check Out Kristen Dinsmore’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Dinsmore.

Heart on sleeve, sleeve on fire, Dinzy is ready to leave it all on the floor. From the Whiskey A Go Go to Nashville’s Basement, with only a suitcase in the back of a sunbaked Mustang, hard-luck LA-orphan Kristen Dinsmore is bringing her all-or-nothing anthems of survival, power, and discovery, with full force, to the heart of Music City.

Delivering on-demand a harmonious, adrenaline-shot rock with an unabashed sincerity and snarl, the Nashville-gone-nitro artist is blazing the torch of big, loud rock and roll with a gasoline grit. Dinzy’s debut electrifying, high-octane self-titled album, was released in 2018 featuring Ann Wilson evoking yet unmistakably original and raw vocals along with unique approach to songwriting.

Dinzy kicked off 2020 touring America as the lead singer of the new wave 80’s band, Bow Wow Wow for the “Totally 80’s Tour” with When in Rome II and The Motels. She is currently tracking her second studio album and has recently released a single feat Artist Davie Smith covering Paramore’s 2017 hit, “Hard Times”. On October 23rd, Dinzy released the music video for her single cover of Paramore’s Hard Times, shot by Nashville’s premier videographers “Duende Vision” Productions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many challenges along the way. First was actually finding a writing partner and players who share your same love and interests and then to actually keep the band together was a whole other feat. Los Angeles was a tough place to get traction as an original band when I first started out. Although we frequented the Whiskey A Go Go and had a blast, there wasn’t a great catalyst for getting us up and out of the strip. After completing pop/rock performance programs and recording engineering school at Citrus College, I was ready to start working full-time as a singer and performer. I knew LA was not going to be fruitful enough to achieve a successful thriving career, so I came up with the idea to move and Nashville was the first thing on my mind. Since living here I have definitely been able to work successfully as a musician in event/party bands, on Broadway downtown Nashville and as an artist. Covid has been an obviously huge obstacle, but I look forward to next year for more live shows and a brand-new album.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, and performer. I write and compose original music under my artist and nickname “Dinzy”. I also perform in the 12-south band, emerald empire, and skyline drive event bands all located in Nashville. I am a session vocalist as well as a background vocalist. I sing and perform downtown on the Broadway circuit in Nashville. and am also a touring singer. I might be more commonly known and specialize as a rock vocal artist, but I love to sing everything from pop to country. I am most known for my extreme high energy and stage presence when performing while keeping strong with vocals. I think what sets me apart is my urge to really put on a show. With every performance I do, I want to entertain and get the audience up on their feet. I was always enamored with artists like Steven Tyler and Gwen Stefani in their do-or-die performance taking over the audience while never wavering in their vocal ability. As far as we knew, this was their last and final show and we were all there to go on a journey with them and leave the world for a bit.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have been lucky in a lot of ways since moving to Nashville. I’ve been lucky to meet and know some amazing people who are now my friends including my best friend and fellow artist Anana Kaye who has helped me so much in the business and with my brand. She also runs her own video production company, “Duende Vision” with her husband Irakli Gabriel and I’ve been lucky to work with them on most of my original musical projects including the most recent single, “Hard Times”. Being in the right place at the right time has also brought me to my first US tour fronting the new wave 80’s band, “Bow Wow Wow”. Future friend and singer Susan Hyatt of the band Pillbox happened to see me at a Tribute show at the Basement East and later recommended me for tour to the original member of Bow Wow Wow. After getting the audition, I was on my way to California to start the two-month tour which was such an incredible experience that enriched my life and career.
