Daily Inspiration: Meet Gable Hea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gable Hea.

Hi Gable, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Music has always been in my life but I didn’t start taking it seriously until I was 12. I joined the music studio of a local music teacher in Dallas named Cherry Hanes. She trained me in opera, jazz, broadway, and American Folk music. She gave me amazing opportunities, including competing in a number of prestigious competitions and a classical music education that has allowed me to get where I am today.

After nine years or so of studying under her, I decided to go out on my own to find what I really wanted to do. Around this same time, I started learning the guitar, writing my own songs, and spending time out in East Texas with the East Texas Songwriter Coalition. They gave me what I like to call a classic country education.

They introduced me to some of the best artists you will never hear of and showed me that real country music was about telling stories from the heart. I completely fell in love with the genre and the rest is history.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’d definitely been a hard road but just because something is difficult doesn’t mean it’s impossible. One of my biggest challenges has been finding the people who believe in me and my creative vision.

There have been times when the only person who’s believed in me has been myself. But I’ve always known who I was and what I was capable of achieving. It just took everyone else a little bit longer to figure it out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m really proud of the fact that I have been able to help other artists tell their stories through songwriting. I’ve been really blessed to work with and be mentored by incredible songwriters like Michel Puryear that have helped me become the best song teller I can be.

Because of their help and guidance, I am now in a place where I have started to help other artists tell their stories through song and I love it!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that peoples are complicated. Every single person you encounter on a day-to-day basis has a life as complicated as your own. This was a particularly challenging concept for me to come to terms with because I’ve been told throughout my musical career that I needed to choose who I was going to be.

That I needed to be able, to sum up, who I was in an easy to swallow a marketable pill that anyone could take. But people are multifaceted and no matter how hard I try I’m not going to be for everyone.
