Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelsey Gordon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Gordon.

Hi Kelsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I relocated to Middle Tennessee back in 2012 wanting to, like thousands of other people in this city, pursue a career in the music industry (Artist Management). While on this journey and through some failed attempts, I found myself working in the recruiting field. I live and worked, and worked and lived and found myself attending many concerts and music. All that was fun, but I was looking for more out of my occupation.

As time went on I found myself stagnant and needing something new. I decided to get back to my training and decided to get my personal training certification. Through that process of getting certified, I also decide to go back to school and I eventually got a second degree in Exercise Science.

I ended up leaving my recruiting job and pursuing a career in the fitness industry full-time. I now am a personal trainer, fitness instructor, and boxing instructor working at TITLE Boxing Club – Nashville.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has most definitely had its bumps in the road. It has definitely been something I’ve had to work for and earn. The first gym I worked for struggled to stay afloat, went through changes that forced me to go from an employee to a manager without much warning. It forced me to make decisions, whether I thought I could or should.

However, I will say that I learned on the fly and asked for help when needed. Ultimately, what was a pretty stressful situation turned into a great opportunity for growth and helped push me into a better situation and job. For that I am grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a personal trainer and boxing instructor. I teach group strength training classes as well as boxing classes at TITLE Boxing Club. I just launched a website where I’m offering personal training, online training, and programming.

I’m most proud of my transition and growth in the last year. I’ve come into my own in the last year within the training space and am eager to continue growing training in Nashville.

I think what sets me apart from others is my versatility as well as my ability to really connect and build relationships with my clients. I take pride in getting to really know these people.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Honestly, I see the fitness industry pushing more and more in the virtual/digital space. More and more virtual workout options. I think we will see more clients/members moving to a more hybrid approach. People will have their in-home gyms as well as their in-club workouts.

Ultimately, I think the industry will continue to see growth all around.
