Today we’d like to introduce you to April Fisher.
Hi April, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
After 14 years as a high school business teacher and college professor in Pittsburgh PA, my husband and I packed our family of four daughters, (Abie 18, Payten 13, Ella and Nora identical twins 11, and Zoe Katniss “our puggle,” and Hazel Grace, “our beagle”) moved to Hendersonville, TN at the beginning of the pandemic – (April 2020). Our oldest daughter Abie is a singer/songwriter, and self-taught musician, I altered her education and she graduated a year and a half early from high school to pursue music.
My background is in marketing and sports, arts, and entertainment management. We hit the road multiple times to mostly Nashville, then NY, and LA to grow our network in the music industry. Abie L. Recently released a single “great big space” from her debut EP, “I wonder if I’ll bleed” on October 14th. www.abielofficial.com – I’m so proud of her! We all are! Once we moved into Hendersonville I knew it was time for me to practice what I was preaching to my daughters and former students. I had to pursue my dreams of being in the entertainment industry as an actor and model.
I signed with a talent agency (Tribe Talent Management) in the same month we moved here – April 2020 and have been fortunate to book jobs with many companies – John Deere, Honda, Nissan, commercial and print advertising for many brands, music videos, and more… I have also been representing myself and my family as an agent and have booked us on several campaigns as well (tractor supply, soaky mountain water park, etc.).
We are definitely making dreams come true since we’ve moved here! Including… After 22 years at Comcast, my husband Gary was furloughed due to the pandemic, it couldn’t have been worse timing since we had just moved, – but he recently opened our family business and is his own boss at 4U Home Inspection https://4uhomeinspection.net/about-us.
We are so happy here as a family (and individually), and continue to work hard every day at pursuing our dreams and goals!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our story has definitely had its challenges along the way. It took some time to settle in and adjust, but southern hospitality is definitely real – people are very kind here. My three younger daughters had to start a new school and make new friends – the pandemic was definitely a bit of a struggle and we had to lock down a bunch together.
But I honestly think it made us closer as a family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would call myself a “Hybrid Entertainment Business Professional” I think my whole life has led me to this point – all experiences, good, bad, and indifferent… I’ve utilized all of my strengths and skills to be able to give myself that label
My background in teaching encompasses marketing, hospitality and tourism and sports, arts, and entertainment management, which has allowed me to break into the entertainment industry – not just for myself, but for my family – I’m very proud of that! I’m raising four strong girls and I want them to know they can do and be anything that they want in life. I don’t feel like my husband and I ever got that support when we were young – but they have it 100 percent, and we make sure they know it. It’s part of the reason we moved – for opportunities.
And talk about unique – our four girls are the lights of our lives – and they each shine a different color. I work part-time at Big Machine Distillery (which is also a record label, music city grand Prix title sponsor, etc.) downtown Nashville on 3rd avenue as a tour guide, promotional model, and bartender I love people and I specialize in giving them a good experience – I would say I’m known for this. Sometimes customers come in and say they’ve read the reviews and they are glad they got to meet me. It’s humbling.
It gives me the flexibility to model and act, and they are very understanding of my goals. I think it’s my energy that sets me apart from others, and my ability to read others and get them to enjoy the moment.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m motivated by art My daughter’s music, and other music of course great acting – scenes from marriage were amazing! Yoga and tapping into the human spirit simple quotes and poetry
Gabby Bernstein is great, I love her approach.
I love it when women can come together and not feel threatened by each other but feel empowered – that’s special.
