Hidden Gems: Meet Marjorie Poff of Enneaplanner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marjorie Poff.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in 2020. As many of us wondered why we were making any plans in the middle of a pandemic, a conversation led to a thought of why so many planners try to be one-size-fits-all. I am a planner to my core. Even as a little girl, I was the one telling everyone which characters they would play in our make-believe games, the ones who organized group projects, and who had all my birthday parties planned out every year. And now, as an adult, my days tend to be structured and routine, and making decisions comes at ease. But trying to use a paper planner has been a daunting task that leaves me overwhelmed and frustrated. I am also an Enneagram One, so the sentence that I just wrote should not be true. In processing this conversation, I realized the frustration IS that planners try to throw as much into each page as possible so that there is something for everyone. Yet, in doing this, many people like myself end up giving up on their planners even before seeing a new month.

Along with my love of planning and organizing, I geek out over learning what makes people tick. Several years ago, I was introduced to the Enneagram and was fascinated by it. I’ve loved how it looked beyond the surface of my personality and revealed core motivations, fears, and desires. The Enneagram is a valuable tool for all areas of life, so I thought why not use it as a way to make us all more productive in how we organize our day-to-day. We spend way too much time and money going through planner after planner because we want to be organized and efficient, but there is not a one size fits all way to make this happen.

Thus the birth of Enneaplanner. The planner with your Enneagram type in mind. After several months of deeper research, the differences of each Enneagram number became more apparent, and the need for a more personalized planner experience was evident.

Enneaplanner is a planner based on each Enneagram type. No two numbers will have the same layout or same elements in their planner. Our store is online and will open in 2022. Follow along on social media and sign up on our website for updates.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been several bumps along the road, and I’m sure several more are on the way. Some days I have been my own big struggle in this process. Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. I had to believe that I had what it takes to be a small business owner, that I was capable of making decisions and trusting those decisions. I have had to be okay with taking risks and know that sometimes the risk will not turn out the way you expected. Struggles and obstacles are inevitable. Each day you have to focus on your “why” and realize that you are doing something bigger than yourself.

One of the biggest technical struggles (and biggest lessons I learned so far) was finding a company to do my printing.

I had a specific vision for the Enneaplanners. Still, as a small business, I kept hitting walls finding a company with the materials I wanted for the size planner I was creating. Just as I was about to put the finishing touches on Enneaplanner One, the printer I had chosen said there was no way they could do what I wanted. At that moment, I had a choice to make…compromise on my vision and quality of planner, go back to the drawing board of finding a printer or find the equipment I needed to become my own printer. Thankfully, I was able to find a great company just a few hours away that has exceeded my expectations in delivering a high-quality product.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Enneaplanner is a planner company. We specialize in planners based on the Enneagram system. Enneaplanner is going to unfold who you are, and bring depths and focus to your days. Our desire is to help people be their most efficient and productive selves. In addition to that, we are using principles of the Enneagram to challenge our users in areas of personal growth as they use the planner throughout the year. We all waste so much time and money trying to find the perfect planner every year. Planners either throw the kitchen sink at you or are just a simple calendar/schedule. Enneaplanner has researched what makes each Enneagram type tick and each Enneagram type’s planner will be a distinct design and layout. We want you to feel seen.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To get out of my own way! Focus on what I can do well and ask for help on those things that make my head spin.
