Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Wade.
Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My musical journey began when I was 18. I had a high school senior project where I learned how to play the guitar and wrote my first song. It was a big turning point in my life, as it was one of the first times I felt like I was choosing what I wanted to learn about and explore. Coincidentally, the song I wrote called “Side of the Road” was featured on the hit TV show One Tree Hill several years later and was one of my first big achievements.
My Silent Bravery symbolizes inner strength, perseverance, persistence, and the ability to overcome obstacles. I have been dealing with a sports injury over the years and it is a challenge in my life and I continue to work hard to overcome that obstacle. I now try and inspire others to overcome their obstacles through the messages in my music.
A silver lining runs through my music, and that’s intentional. When I go out to play shows, it’s not about me. It’s about the audience. That’s what I want listeners to walk away with. I hope they’ll feel more uplifted and inspired than when they came.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As mentioned, I had a sports injury in my youth that ignited my love of music into a full-time passion in the wake of a life-changing injury. I was in Australia, studying abroad in my senior year at college. I was doing some shoulder shrugs in a gym and ended up herniating a couple of discs in my neck.
When I came back to the U.S., I sought treatment for several years. I tried massage therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, you name it. But no one was able to help me. This put me at a crossroads because I’d always been very athletic and sociable and the injury was debilitating my enjoyment of life.
My brother suggested that I follow a more spiritual approach, based in part on Kabbalah, the ancient Jewish school of mystical knowledge. The positivity that energizes my music today began to color my outlook. Through spiritual work, the chronic pain lessened. I explored new paths — and they guided me directly to the music.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter and musician. I specialize in and create inspirational alternative rock music. I feel what makes me stand out is my uplifting positive message.
I chose the band name, My Silent Bravery which to me symbolizes inner strength, perseverance, persistence, and the ability to overcome obstacles. I hope that people who listen to my music leave more inspired than when they came.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The music industry has definitely shifted a lot over the last 5-10 years and I am sure it will continue to change. In addition to market changes, we have also seen Covid impact the entertainment business in a big way, especially live music.
We have seen digital service providers like Spotify and Apple Music become the big drivers for reaching new listeners. We have also seen new apps like TikTok come along. I think we have seen more competition for people’s awareness of the brand, as they are being bombarded with media from all angles.
I think it’s important to know your brand and audience to be able to attract new fans in an ever-changing marketplace and environment.
