Life & Work with Cooper Greer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cooper Greer.

Hi Cooper, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As I grew up there was always a guitar in my hands, my dad and great-grandmother both played, so I spent a lot of time as a child banging on their guitars. I got my first guitar at 9 and started to learn to play. I discovered songwriting around age 16 and started singing a little around 18.

At the time, I wasn’t pursuing it as a career because I was into Rodeo and rode bulls on and off for a few years. During my time on the road, I gathered more experiences to write songs about. I started playing local gigs and it took off (I played over 100 shows my first year in) that’s when I started to take it seriously. I have been grinding away at it ever since. I have been managing, booking, writing, and performing as well as working a full-time job for the last 3 years. It’s a lot of work but at the end of the day, it’s nice to know you don’t owe anybody anything. I have a great group of guys playing with me and a great fanbase that supports the hell out of us.

At this point it’s not just about me anymore, it’s about going all the way with it for all the people that have had faith in what we are doing. They are just as much a part of it as anything, without them this wouldn’t be possible. The last 2 songs we put out (Back Around & Always Was) have been the most well-received so far and it’s obvious that the fanbase is growing considerably. I have big plans for 2022 including lots of new songs and some new music videos as well!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not lol, working a full-time job and being on the road every weekend is tough sometimes, it’s hard on relationships and friendships because you’re never home. But every time you play a song you wrote and see the crowd singing along or a little kid comes up wanting you to sign something it reminds you that it’s all worth it. I wouldn’t trade that for the world

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work for a tree service/hurricane cleanup company. It’s hard work running a chainsaw or hauling logs all day every day but I think it gives you resilience. You got to be able to work hard and push through in the music business and I think that gives me an edge. Hard work is underrated but you need it in the music business if you’re gonna go anywhere.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I would say either hunting and fishing with my dad as a kid catching my first bass, getting my first deer, etc. A lot of good memories there so it’s tough to pick just one.
