Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Flinn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I worked long and inconsistent hours with the Air Force as the top enlisted leader within my organization of around 500 military and civilian personal. I oversaw the “care and feeding” of our Airmen, ensuring they had the tools and education to accomplish their mission while balancing physical fitness to stay combat ready.
By the fall of 2017, I began to recognize I could no longer outrun my folk. I was pouring all my attention into work and ignoring my self-care and personal relationships. I was lacking energy and taking a lot of naps at night, on the weekends, and sadly a few under my desk over lunch to make it through the remainder of the day. The final straw, like napping under my desk isn’t bad enough, was when my workouts started to suffer.
I stumbled across a 30-day clean eating program sponsored by Arbonne, a plant-based health and wellness company that’s been around since 1980. I learned how to fuel my body for my needs and regained my energy within that first 30-days. I was back to my old self, and people recognized and wanted to know what I was doing.
I loved serving, leading, and mentoring Airmen, but we all have an expiration date like every military career. I also loved helping others improve their physical fitness throughout my military career but was never strong in nutrition. Starting my Arbonne business as an Independent Consultant allowed me to continue serving, leading, and mentoring a population looking for a change in their habits.
I grew my Arbonne business alongside my military career, including a year-long deployment, for almost 3 years, achieving the 3rd of 4 levels of management. I also went to school to become a certified health and life coach to further enhance my clients’ experience in habit transformation. Towards the end of 2019, my husband Tony and I decided it was time to request to retire and take back control of our schedule. I was approved and officially retired on 1 October 2020, after 24 years of service, and moved to our current home in Ashland City on 27 beautiful acres.
The journey to where I am today was challenging, and I was surrounded by a community of women and men who encouraged me to keep pushing for what I wanted. This journey is far from over. My goal upon retirement has always been to give back to my community because no matter where I was stationed, the community always supported us, whether home station or deployed. I have a vision to use our property where our community can come together, be at peace, escape the daily grind, and work on transforming their health and wellness. I’m able to continue to grow my Arbonne business and use that as my vehicle to help me live in my purpose – to live free, have fun and inspire others to do the same.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HECK YES, I’ve hit obstacles and challenges! I deployed for a year shortly after starting my business and decided going to school during this time was a smart decision. My days went from 0330-2030 to get in my workouts, work 10-12 hours, business growth, and school. Upon returning from deployment, I maintained that same schedule until I retired. I time blocked my calendar and scheduled everything, including dinner with Tony.
I have said no to a lot along the way to maintain my focus and discipline. I saw the potential this business could provide for Tony and me. I’m not upset that I can’t participate in conversations talking about the latest episode on a popular tv show…unless it’s Yellowstone. Still, even that is time blocked into my calendar.
I have clients who quit on me. I have teammates quit on me. I have months when sales are lower than I anticipated. I battle my head trash that I’m not deserving of this incredible success. I battle my confidence that I’m the one who can help someone. I struggle getting out of bed at 5 am – no need for 0330 anymore!!
I work on my mindset the most. I am a strong believer that my attitude and what I tell myself determine where I go next.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Arbonne International?
Arbonne is a health and wellness company with over four decades of history. Our brand philosophy embraces the connection between a healthier mind, a stronger body, and more beautiful skin. We are a Certified B Corporation, which means we balance profit with people and the planet. We not only want to be the best company for you, but we want to be the best company for the planet.
My area of genius is coaching clients through a 30-day clean eating program and beyond. I like to tell my clients they get me for life or until they tell me to no longer talk to them. I care deeply about their transformation, recognizing transforming habits typically takes longer than 30 days. After all, we didn’t get where we are in 30 days. I am their support system, accountability partner, and kick in the pants when they need it. Additionally, I’m opening my calendar to do more long-term coaching to target other areas in a client’s life they want to transform.
Having a military background sets me apart from other coaches. I know what it’s like to try and eat healthy with dining facility food, living in hotels with a busy travel schedule, and working long days. I use the skills and tricks I’ve learned along the way to navigate through almost every excuse a client, or future client gives me when they say they can’t do something. Together, we will find a way.
How do you think about happiness?
Sharing my knowledge and serving others makes me happy. I find great value in sharing the knowledge that I have to enhance another’s life. I want you to succeed in your goals as much as I want to succeed in my goals. We don’t always have the luxury of having a strong support system or someone who believes in us. I want to be that person for others.
Outside of that, my happiness comes from having my quiet time, spending time with Tony and my two 15-year-old min pins exploring.
