Rising Stars: Meet The Action Catalyst Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Action Catalyst Podcast. Them and their team share their story with us below:

The Action Catalyst podcast began in 2013 as an offshoot of the Southwestern Family of Companies, one of the largest and oldest private corporations in Tennessee. Southwestern was started in 1855 in Nashville and is comprised of family member companies across a range of industries, all with the shared goals of building people and positively impacting communities worldwide. Many of these businesses such as the consulting and coaching firms, attract top-level talent with amazing insights and backgrounds, and we thought, why not share this with a broader audience than just our clients? So, the podcast started as a way to bring our in-house talent to a larger base, but over the years we have shifted focus to an outward-facing, interview-centered program which features the best and brightest minds from all industries, from business to sports, entertainment, politics, and more. Guests have featured state governors, multiple US Olympians, financial expert Dave Ramsey, Stedman Graham, former CIA agents, futurists and space experts, Grammy award winners, and of course, CEOs, founders, and high-level executives all sharing the advice and insights that got them to where they are today. The Action Catalyst podcast will help you uncover your inspiration! Each episode gives you valuable insights so that you can overcome setbacks, defeat mediocrity, and reach your goals in life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were a few growing pains along the way as the podcast worked to find its voice and the format that worked best for the information we were trying to get across. Our call is always to Invest, Inspire, and Impact; to invest attention and details into our listeners, to inspire them to go out and make a positive impact on the world. The program’s original host left about halfway through the show’s lifespan, which resulted in a bit of a shakeup, but out of that, we settled on a new format with two hosts, Dan Moore and Dustin Hillis, each with different interview styles and approaches, which has allowed us to broaden the types of guests we attract, as well as appeal to a larger listenership. Some are Dustin fans, some are Dan fans, but we can cater to all of them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your hosts?
Host Dan Moore is the President of Southwestern Advantage, America’s oldest entrepreneurial program for university students, operating for over 150 years. Dan graduated from Harvard with honors in 3 years and went on to earn his MBA from Vanderbilt University. He has over 3 decades in sales leadership, sales training, and marketing management. Dan has personally trained over 100,000 people how to sell through Southwestern’s sales and business entrepreneurship training program. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Business. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the guitar and piano and is an avid runner. Since the age of 51, he has completed 21 half-marathons in four countries.

Host Dustin Hillis is the CEO of Southwestern Family of Companies. As Chief Executive Officer, Dustin Hillis is leading the vision and strategy to make Southwestern Family of Companies the most impactful privately-owned company worldwide. In addition to being CEO of Southwestern Family of Companies, Hillis is a Co-Founder of Southwestern Consulting, a sales and leadership coaching, keynote speaking, and personal empowerment firm that helps clients around the world drive sales performance through the use of time-tested principles and proven methodologies. With a degree in psychology, Hillis is an expert in buying, selling, management behavior, and how to adapt to the way people want to be communicated with. Dustin Hillis has traveled the world to deliver keynote speeches in multiple countries including Singapore, Scotland, the UK, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Peru, Columbia, Canada, and all across the United States. In 2019, Hillis was named to Nashville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list and has been featured in a variety of media outlets such as Entrepreneur magazine, Fortune magazine, The Dave Ramsey Show, and Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast to name a few.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Producer Zach Troutman was brought on board in 2021 and has expanded distribution for the podcast to over 90 platforms in 109 countries worldwide. Zach has a degree in Recording Engineering, and over a decade of experience in radio, including a role as Public Affairs Producer for Mix 92.9 and Jack FM, as well as time as Operations Manager of a SiriusXM station. Additionally, Zach launched and produced the official podcast for Bass Pro Shops, the multi-billion-dollar retail, and outdoor giant.
