Exploring Life & Business with Raychel and Ryan Jamieson of Jamieson Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raychel and Ryan Jamieson.

Raychel and Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As newlyweds in 2010, we became very curious about how we could get more involved in producing our own food. We started with a backyard urban chicken flock in Davidson County and growing our own vegetables. We learned a little more each year and have now transitioned out of our teaching careers to become full-time farmers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We knew farming was a profession that would have its share of challenges. Predator prevention, soil infertility, and pest control have all been challenges that we have tackled as learning experiences. Perhaps the greatest challenge is learning how to run a farm as a business. We did not realize when we started how important it would be to learn customer acquisition, bookkeeping, and website design skills.

We’ve been impressed with Jamieson Farm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in a Community Supported Agriculture program that allows our customers to choose each week what they want and we deliver it to their door! Pasture-raised chicken and eggs, fresh cut flower bouquets, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and even local artisan breads. As a member of our CSA program customers have their choice of the farm’s harvest each season.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
You can find us at our website and learn more about our CSA at www.jamiesonfarm.org
