Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren A. Dixon.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A few years back, there I was, a young mad scientist attending Kentucky State University, who wanted to help everyone battling with autoimmune disorders. Growing up with a guardian suffering from Lupus, to a partner at that time in the early stages of understanding Multiple Sclerosis at age 22, just turning 21 for myself – I wanted to join the front line of the cellular army; medical research was my focus.
After graduation, I was able to complete a post- BACC program in Biological Research, focusing on cellular and immune response in renal transplant recovery and immunochemistry. Cool right? Running assays, creating cell lines, breeding murine (yes, mice) colonies, it was fascinating at the moment, until rejection from the same school’s public health program gave me a wake-up call of purpose.
Dealing with academic rejection after I just co-published my second research journal, and had recently come from Emory on a travel scholarship to present an immunological study. Rejection? I had to check in to see what I wanted to do for myself, which meant going back to the drawing board of my focus and assignment in life. During this same moment, I picked up pharmacy at a local retailer which put me in a groove as I transitioned to obtain my Masters of Science in Public Health from Meharry Medical College.
Working with the gatekeepers, community advocates, and health specialists, I knew this was my calling as a Public Health Educator & Promoter. Another hang-up of ensuring my integrity in advocacy was on the line as a lead pharmacy technician and being within the pharmaceutical industry. I chose a step further. A one-year doctoral training in pharmaceutical science at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Within this year I learned the basis of medications, but rejection and resistance came in again in my final project as I tried to explain how an herb can influence a better anti-inflammatory response and pain relief than a popular NSAID and reduce aggravating pharmaceutical side effects. My spirit led me to a Traditional Chinese Medicine School, wanting to practice herbalism. So, I became a Master Herbalist through KCNH.
Learning the difference and similarities of rejection and opportunity will allow you to grow through your moments of adversity. Innerstanding my inner critic and the allowance to control that inner chatter has now propelled me to finish my second masters in Health and Wellness Coaching (from MUIH) with a concentration in Herbal Science, also a certification in Cannabis Science to better serve my communities inside and out, via spiritual and/or physically through the most organic practices and integrative wellness techniques. I now work closely with my sister, Chardonne’ Dixon, in metaphysical and energy work through intuitive divination- readings, cleanings, and ascension assistance, Crown Therapy (Loc Start + Retwist) even as a medical intuit.
Solely, I manage my practices in Master gardening (Trudo Healing + Canna Company- coming soon), quantum healing through energy, sound, color, and light (Sirius B Apothecary & Shop), as well as Herbal Coaching, Medication/Healing Management, Wellness & Health Coaching, wildcrafting herbs and customizing herbal recipes through Mehr (M+) Majick. I love my HBCUs. The proud product I stand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road would be a boring drive. I have learned to embrace my challenges along the way. It has helped me trust myself more, appreciate the tribe that keeps me, and propels me along the way. These struggles allow us to redefine what determines our present and our future that we’re building for ourselves, or even when considering others in our future. It allows us to transform into growing, individualized, cultivating, and character-filled people.
Challenging your learned experience into creating the one that’s true for you. Rejection as mentioned were some of my struggles, in between lodging while taking a step out on faith to focus on me, being raised in a single-parent home with my dad and sister in Smyrna, Tennessee, even dealing with deaths. Recognizing generational cycles, ancestral veneration, setting healthy boundaries, and even learning neuroplasticity along the way has allowed me to GROW through, not just GO through these experiences of change and understanding, allowing me to work purposefully.
Giving grace and showing some compassion for myself has given “struggles” a new lens of fine-tuning my weaknesses, finally turning them into strengths. How else will you be able to attain grace, gratitude, and satiety in life for yourself?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
A Quantum Healer and Metaphysician, I enjoy the combination of ancestral rootwork through herbology, organic gardening and plant transplantation, intuitive medical reading with muscle response testing, as well as ICF-driven Health and Wellness Coaching. I am partners with MUIH herbal dispensary as a Herbal Practitioner to be able to distribute and assist in custom herbal recipes.
Work as the herbal distributor and Master Herbalist for Sirius B Apothecary and Shop (online), formerly operated in Hot Springs, Arkansas, a self-employed Herbal Crafter, Health Consultant in Program Evaluation, Public Health Educator and Promoter of increased Quality of Life (QoL) through my own business, Mehr (M+) Majick, pronounced “More Majick.” I specialize in an Elderberry Elixir – Soul Section, that is prepared sugar-free or only with honey & organic cane, that even the pickiest kids have been able to swallow as an immune booster.
This elixir is made with other healing and tonic herbs that aid the body in the present and long term. My baths have their own flair of magickal energies, from improving self-will (solar plexus), making sure you’re popping in areas you’ve forgotten, full chakra cleanses, and much more for all genders. My latest creation is four non-cannabis smoking blends of smokable herbs that help you replace your habit or influence your mood. There’s an aphrodisiac blend (Up in Smoke), meditative blend (Shaman Sh*t), and a relax/sleep blend (Lucid Lotus).
Aside from Mastering Herbology, I have helped others in integrative health practices, working alongside physicians in assisting individuals in custom care within my scope. This can include medication consultation and management, health and wellness coaching in all realms of life, specializing in goal setting, self-alignment, and self-efficacy, as well as tantric (sexual) wellness. I am in the process of uprooting my gardening services providing gardening kits, creative almanacs, gardening journals, coaching, and transplantation needs as a Master Gardener.
I am most proud of my ability to carry on ancestral duties, leave an impactful and environmentally friendly carbon footprint. I am proud of serving my community in ways that seem taboo or through natural processes that are serving, impacting, and enhancing our quality of life – nutritionally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and more.
What sets me apart from others would be my personal gift and pure intention within my work, which allows me to be fruitful and abundant in the services that I provide in a collaborative and collective way. “Alone we can go fast, together we can go far.” – African Proverb.
How do you define success?
I would define success as your ability to respond to adversity. You define your own scale, but how you respond will affect the timeline and/or capacity of success. This response can be inside or out, whether people hear you or not. Your internal chatter is just as important as someone’s opinion.
When struggle comes- how are you dealing internally with it? It will show up externally in health over time if not healed appropriately through various disorders, diseases, or emotional projections. Success counts as all the small AND big steps that you take to accomplish your goal(s), seen and unseen or unforeseen.
