Daily Inspiration: Meet Alie Muscella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alie Muscella.

Hi Alie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started modeling 7 years ago, while in college at Philadelphia University. My school had a very reputable fashion design program and a few fashion design students asked me if I would be a fit model for them. I accepted and started modeling students’ clothing both on and off the runway. One of these students a couple years later asked if I would accompany her and her brand to New York Fashion Week to walk as a model in her show. I accepted and was extremely excited to be a part of such a big event in modeling and fashion. From this point, I began doing print modeling and did less on the runway and with fit modeling. The beginnings of doing photoshoots for print work were rocky, unfortunately getting in with some photographers whose priorities were not professional. I was shocked by this and a little devastated, but I held my head high again and started meeting some wonderful people in my Philadelphia creative community.

Fast forward years later, I am published in various magazines as a model and photographer, have done some wonderful video work, and I have a portfolio I’m very proud of. I have met the most wonderful people who I have befriended and I am so grateful for my journey in my creative ventures. I also made the move to Nashville, June of this year. It wasn’t a huge adjustment socially, as I have many friends, I’ve known for a few years that also live here. Creatively, though, it was a bigger adjustment. I had established myself quite well as a model in Philly and I was back on sending emails, Instagram messages, and trying to find Facebook groups to join, where I could find fellow creatives to work with. It took a bit of time, but I finally was able to work with a few creatives in the area.

This year brought so many opportunities and memories. I can’t wait to continue to grow in Nashville as a person and creative and also to make some wonderful projects happen in the new year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Some struggles include working with other creatives that did not have the right intentions or creatives that used and wasted my time, not causing any growth. I am glad I ran into some obstacles along the way, for a learning experience, but in those moments, it was difficult to handle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional model, specializing in both runway and print. I’m known in the creative community as more of an alternative-styled model with what I style myself in. I enjoy modeling all types of pieces and in all types of environments, but I love darker-themed shoots, where I can really be myself.

I’m most proud of walking in New York Fashion Week and being featured in various magazines. I hope to have more opportunities on the same lines of these achievements in the future!

What sets me apart from others is my drive and also being so hands-on in all projects I take on. I really enjoy creating a concept that excites me and the photographer I’m working with, and I do my best to provide any styling, makeup, and collecting or making any props needed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’d say luck hasn’t really played too much a part in my life that I can think of. I consider myself lucky to be where I am, but there aren’t any defining moments for me getting to where I am that I admit are completely due to luck.
