Meet Bryn O’Reilly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryn O’Reilly.

Hi Bryn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Of course, thanks for sharing my story! I always knew I wanted to study art and have a creative-based career, but my first digital design course in high school made my next step evident. I studied Communication Design at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and after graduation, I moved to Nashville to pursue a career in Graphic Design.

I quickly realized how corporate design was not a fit, and as a recent grad in a creative field my position wasn’t going anywhere fast. I found some fulfillment in freelancing— mainly on branding projects, which I’ve always excelled at.

Eventually, my part-time freelance funds were covering my bills and I wondered what it could be like if I devoted my full attention to it. Like any freelance story, I decided to leave my corporate job and take a chance on myself. My successful 6-month trial period turned into a year, a year has turned into four, and I could not be more thankful for that decision.

I now own a creative agency that exclusively works on projects I feel passionately about alongside my team of incredibly talented individuals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The creativity of it all has come very easily, but the four-year progression from freelancer to agency founder has required the need to fill shoes that I do not always feel secure in even as a natural leader. Being a small business owner requires many skills, and when you are getting started all of those integral parts of running a business are yours to manage.

I’ve been the designer, art director, client manager, project manager, accountant, saleswoman, payroll administrator, and the list goes on… The pressure of doing all of this correctly, especially the parts I don’t enjoy has been the hardest part.

Every logistical and emotional step to becoming a female small business owner has been a lesson and I continue to learn every day.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Braven Creative provides start-to-finish marketing and design solutions for small businesses. We specialize in branding and ongoing marketing efforts for eCommerce stores, including social media, email marketing, and store management. We are known for our talented designers that provide expertly crafted content time and time again.

I am most proud of helping other small business owners, and with that comes reasonable prices for people who like myself, are trying to make a difference for themselves, their families, their community, and their customers.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is to know and stand by your worth as it changes throughout your journey. Especially as a fairly young, female business owner, I have learned that being confident and firm in your boundaries is the biggest key to unlocking your success. If I didn’t stand up for myself or for my team when necessary and keep knocking down walls to our next level, Braven Creative would not be where it is today.
