Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody Kean.
Hi Brody, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After falling in love with music my interest in writing and playing grew exponentially after learning my baseball career would come to an end after my sophomore year of college. I dove into writing and recording, learning the ins and outs of a song, and connecting to listeners. After a few years of learning, I started playing gigs around Maryland in local bars. Going to shows and networking helped me grow and land bigger shows; eventually opening for Rodney Atkins, Justin Moore, Sam Grow, Logan Mize, Jackson Dean, and a few others. Now my focus is trying to book bigger shows and less bar gigs while also widening my distance for where I book.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I haven’t gone through the ups and downs that most struggling musicians have. I work a full-time evening shift job during the week so music is strictly on the weekends…but I would say my only obstacle is not having any management or booking agent so everything I do and book is on my own. Bigger venues don’t always take an artist as serious if they don’t have an agent contacting them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a solo acoustic country artist, I think I’m most proud of how far I’ve come organically on my own.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me if staying true to who I am. I love meeting fans and hanging out in the crowd after a show and taking in the atmosphere just like anyone else is actually one of my favorite things to do. I want to experience the show from the fans perspective so I can understand how I did and learn from it for the next show. At the end of the day though, I’m just a guy who loves to play music with hopes that people enjoy it.
