Conversations with Reneka Swims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reneka Swims.

Hi Reneka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My interest in photography began when I first held a Polaroid camera while taking pictures at a family event. My interest to take pictures grew to a passionate desire to tell a story, capture personal and family memories. When I realized being a photographer is the one job I could do for the rest of my life, I knew this was the ideal lifestyle for me.

Transitioning from careers in automotive logistics and more recently to medical supply chain logistics for two of the largest healthcare systems in the greater Nashville area has afforded me with the opportunity to travel around the country to capture pivotal moments in time for communities and families that depict timeless memories to be shared for years to come.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Relocating first from my small hometown in central Mississippi, then to Memphis, TN and eventually to my current home in Nashville in 2012 presented its own challenges. For anyone that has experienced the hardships of being a transplant to a major metropolitan city, you can understand the difficulties that exist in trying to get acclimated to a new environment, not to mention starting a new business while also trying to learn new techniques for your craft while navigating the professional artistic (photography) scene. Because I tend to be overly critical of my own work, I had to overcome the challenges associated with learning that one or two not-so-perfect photographs didn’t mean that I didn’t put in 100% effort.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, my passion for photography affords me the opportunity to demonstrate to my clients that as I listen to their visual cues during each session, I can create lasting memories that represent a shared conversation between their faces and my lens. While each conversation is different, the message being conveyed is one that reflects a personal story that cannot be put into words.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
