Hidden Gems: Meet Jamie Moorehead of Jai’s Butter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Moorehead. 

Hi Jamie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Wow, my start is a little unorthodox! I was working as a phlebotomist in the medical field and my son has had eczema since he was a baby. We used topical creams for years not knowing the side effects. Until, one winter day in 2014. I sent him outside to play in the snow and when he came in to get water, he had welts all over. Over time, the creams we used had made his skin so thin that the cold air caused his skin to welt. I know it’s crazy but it’s true! So, I began to do my own research on ingredients in skincare products and found none that didn’t have some kind of side effect. That’s when I decided to try and make my own. I had the wisdom God gave me, 75 dollars, a problem, and the determination to find a solution! For about a year, I tried a few different formulas until I got to what we have today! A product the covers so many problems I’ve stopped counting. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all, especially since I said I would never get a business loan! My climb has been slow, yet steady. Whatever we make is reinvested back into the business. My 1st year I made 500 dollars, it doesn’t seem like a lot but if we account, that I only started with 75 dollars, we did pretty well. Plus, I honestly had no clue what I was doing. I will say if you aren’t used to rejection, owning a business, especially one that sells a product probably isn’t ideal for you. The amount of rejection I endured, in the beginning, would’ve caused anyone to quit. I’m glad I didn’t quit. I’m grateful for this experience now because I’ve had the honor to speak to high school students about entrepreneurship and mental health, something that really isn’t talked about enough. With this business I’ve had a lot of people come and go thankfully we now have a great support system and team that helps tremendously. They know who they are! 

I do have to give a shot out and thank you to Royce Massengill and Johnny Lovett. I didn’t want to be the face of my company, but they do an amazing job filming and coaching on how to be, behind the camera. Surprisingly, I like it now! Which has benefited my business greatly.

I do want to give one word of advice” not everyone will understand or believe in your vision… don’t let that stop you!”

Jai’s Butter is a company that specializes in Trichology which is the study, science, and treatment of the hair and scalp. That also includes skincare as well!
