Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristopher Lam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Lam.

Hi Kristopher, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
The journey of how I began food blogging on Instagram really stems from my background in photography and my love of food. Growing up, my parents were always busy working, so they didn’t really have time to cook. I would say, our family ate out a bit more than your average family. As expensive as this may sound, this actually taught me to appreciate different types of food from different cultures. As I transitioned from middle school to high school, I began accompanying my dad as a part-time wedding photographer on the weekends. He taught me all about film photography, then digital photography. As I got older and the culture of sharing your life on social media became more popular, I began to document my dining experience on Yelp, Facebook, and now Instagram. As I began to immerse myself in this new era of social media, I found myself wanting to grow and do a better job of capturing/documenting my experiences. I decided to combine my love of food and my background and skills in photography into one. It has become of my favorite hobbies, that allows me to exercise my creativity and continue to grow as a content creator.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any goal, the path to success is never smooth. During the early days, most content creators were more focused on taking photos. Then the trend of video began to pick up, and as a photographer, having to learn the world of videography was new to me. I’ve never really filmed, edited, and finalized video content in the early days of my Instagram career. To this day, I am still constantly challenged with filming in the kitchen and I really love being in that state. Because to me, it means I still have room to grow. Part of the job is research and studying these different types of styles of videography and photography. I think another obstacle that most food content creators are currently facing is the COVID pandemic these past 2 years. As a person who wants to continue to support local businesses and restaurants, it was a bit of a struggle last year to film content in restaurants.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator on Instagram and I currently specialize in curating food content. I mainly focus on photography and videography of how dishes are prepared from restaurants. I have started to dabble more into home cooking recently. I think what sets me apart from other content creators is how I have the opportunity to share my perspective through an “irregular” lens of how I capture food. I am most proud of being a part of the food community and the followers who have supported my journey over the years.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One important thing I’ve learned is that as someone who has some influence on social media, it’s important for us to continue to use our voice and support local businesses in our communities.
