Meet Veronica Summers of Platinum Bundles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Summers.

Hi Veronica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Nashville, TN. I am 23 years old and have always had a passion for hair. It all began as a child. I always knew I wanted to go to cosmetology school. I grew up always wearing braids and hair store ponytails because my mother did not know how to do hair. My senior year of high school going into college, I began to take my hair care into my own hands. I made my first hand-stitched wig at my grandmother’s house. I was bored and had some old bob hair from a sew-in sitting around the house. I began to make my own wigs and install them myself as glueless wigs. I got several compliments from others. Later on in 2017, I taught myself how to braid. I began practicing my braid patterns, knotless braids, and box braids on a manikin my parents had bought me one Christmas. Next thing you know, I am calling my best friend Armoni Eddings asking her to let me try different styles on her. She was my very first client for just about every style I offer til this day! If it weren’t for her lord knows what I would be doing right now. In 2018, I got my very first sewing machine. This was also another Christmas gift my parents had bought me. I taught myself how to sew and had the idea of creating sewing machine-made wigs. My first attempt was in January 2018, an epic fail! I set sewing machine made wigs aside and stuck to hand stitching. I began selling wigs in 2019 after many requests for wigs to finally start accepting wig orders. I began to receive many wig orders so I knew I had to let hand stitching go and result in a quicker turnaround time. I then decided not the give up and tried again in April 2020. This was my first machine made wig. I created my website and began uploading wigs on my site. Business began to boom, my room became a salon and a wig closet and I could not take the clutter of hair in my room any longer. June 6th, 2020, I decided to get my own shop! My grand opening for my shop was July 3rd, 2020. Yes, that’s right, during the pandemic! This is how I got to where I am today. I am so glad I took that leap of faith in investing in myself. September 21st, 2021 I was able to quit my 9-5 job and fully pursue my passion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, this has not been a smooth road at all. I tried to make my first sewing machine made wig in 2018. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong since I knew how to sew. After wasting so much hair which was money, I became very frustrated and gave up. I did not decide to try again until 2020. Also, being in school studying dental hygiene, I had to learn to joggle time management. Being an entrepreneur, full-time student, and working a part-time job was a lot at times.

As you know, we’re big fans of Platinum Bundles. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Platinum Bundles was created in 2017; However, I recently transitioned to custom wigs in 2019. I am a custom sewing machine wig maker. I specialize in wigs and weave. I am all about protective styles. One thing I can say that sets me apart from others is I take pride in my installs. I am not a stylist who is going to slap six braids in your head for a wig install. I do not rush when it comes to providing my clients with different services. Everything I do in my installs is to promote hair growth, retain length, and increase healthy hair. Another aspect that sets me apart from others is that a shampoo and condition, bone straight or curls is completely complimentary and is offered with any style. I do not up-charge if you need a wash or simple style. There was a trend going around where everything was an add on and cost more for every little thing you wanted in your style. I am most proud that I am self-taught when it comes to creating custom wigs and my brand in general. I offering custom wigs, weave installs (sew-ins, wig installs, quick weaves), braids, ponytail, men braids, natural hair care, and much more!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, I have learned during Covid-19 that you should always have multiple sources of income. Many got layed off from jobs and had to rely on government assistance in order to take care of their home/ household. Surprisingly, Covid-19 was a great time for my business.
