Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Aurilia.
Hi Raquel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started singing about 17 years ago when I was Introduced to Music Producer Tony Papa (Grammy Award winner) in Los Angeles. He sent me a song called “Tears” to sing in the studio for our first meeting, and we decided to record my first album together. From that point on he helped me get a band together and I started performing as much as possible. Since then, I’ve toured, co-written, & recorded three albums and several singles, & have worked with other great producers Gardner Cole & Billy Smiley, & Michael Lattanzi!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a challenging road, but for the most part, I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunities I have had. Some of the struggles for me have mainly been working with (and trusting) the “wrong” people in the industry. You have to be careful, especially as an Independent Artist, who you work with and make sure you do your “homework” and really research who you decide to bring on board. I mainly go with referrals now!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Singer/Songwriter. I sing and write Adult Contemporary and Country Crossover mainly., I have collaborated with other artists in other genres as well.
I have had a few moments actually that I am proud of which include opening for B.B. King, John Waite, Lisa Loeb to name a few! I’ve always admired them so be sharing a stage with such amazing artists is something I am so grateful for!
I feel like my music is unique in the fact that it isn’t really Pop, Country or Adult Contemporary, it’s a good mixture of them all… I also like to delve into other genres as well, even Hip Hop for collaborations which I have done recently. I’m open to all genres when it comes to collaborating!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I am very driven in everything that I do. I like to stay busy and work hard. When I’m in the studio, I will stay as long as I need to until I get the right “take or takes” I am a perfectionist when it comes to my music so I’ll put in as much work and hours as it takes to get things right. As I mentioned, I’m open to collaborating in all genres which continues to give me more opportunities to create with other people and reach different audiences.
