Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Watson.
Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music City Auto Spa is the result of a teenage hobby turned profession. What started out as a passion for driving a clean car became something I was known for. From the early days of cleaning my mom’s and relatives’ cars, grew to hair salons and barbershops calling me to put my special touch on their customers’ vehicles while they waited for service. Frustrated with the repetitive nature of corporate America and unclear of what direction to go, I prayed for God to send me a sign explaining my purpose.
Then one day, after a rough week at work, the sign came in the form of an “Under New Ownership” sign at the Kia dealership in Antioch. I boldly walked in there and asked to speak with a manager and said I owned a car detail company, are you guys looking for any help? The owner proceeded to come down and talk to me personally, he asked if I had a business plan I could bring him. The next few days I used my skillset gained as a Business Administration major at MTSU and wrote out my plan and returned it to him. Two days later he called me back and asked I could start that Monday, July 1st, 2002.
Thus began my journey as a full time entrepreneur and here we are today almost 20yrs later still going strong.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Everything definitely has not been peaches and cream. As a young businessman, I made several mistakes, many being hiring friends and family and trying to help everyone that came along. You quickly realize that more often than not people don’t have your best interest in mind rather it’s more of a what can you do for me mindset. Being an entrepreneur taught me discipline and how to have thick skin. We now foster a workplace of inclusion and upward mobility because employee retention is of the utmost importance in this trying economy.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in Full Service Auto Detailing but we have become known for quality results and customer service. Our top attribute is that we always go the extra mile to deliver world-class customer service, I train my guys that if you see something whether it’s in the job description or not just fix it. I’m a firm believer that if you do it for the love a passion people’s word of mouth will be the best advertisement you’ll ever get.
What sets us apart is that we’ve never met a stranger, when you walk in Music City Auto Spa you immediately get an impression of family and professionalism. While the majority of detailers in the city are mobile we offer 3 distinct aspects of detailing that create a dynamic unlike anywhere else.
1. We have a brick and mortar shop where you can drive-in get your car cleaned while you wait in our state of the art lobby or on the large patio outback. We offer free Wifi, coffee, and refreshments while you kick back on our plush leather chairs. Customers can watch TV on any one of our 6 flat screens or listen to tunes softly played through our surround sound system.
2. Customers can also request mobile services from one of our 3 mobile vans (20-mile radius) where one of our trained technicians will come to your house. You will receive the same top notch service right in the comfort of your home or office (convenience fee added).
3. Lastly what totally sets us apart is our Concierge Detail Services. Our licensed and insured technicians will come to your home and pick up your vehicle. From there we offer an array of Full Service options for a total automotive experience. We offer some of the following just to name a few;
*gas refueling
*oil changes
*rim repair
*Ceramic Coating
*window tinting

*paintless dent repair (PDR)
What do you like and dislike about the city?
As a true Nashville native, I can say I love to see that after 40+ years the city is finally growing and becoming more inclusive. I’m glad the city is becoming a melting pot for diversity but we still have a long way to go. We need to level the playing field so that no matter what race, gender or nationality everyone has a seat at the table and can capitalize on the growth and money being experienced in the city right now.
The thing I least like about what’s happening in the city is gentrification. People who were mainstays and part of what made this city so great are being forced out of the city they call home. I’m all for capitalism but at what cost do we displace the least of us, there has to be a happy medium where growth and history meet so that all Nashvillians can enjoy our great city, not just the wealthy implants and tourists.
