Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Woodard.
Hunter, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My entire life growing up I was surrounded by all types of sports, but skateboarding became my first true love. Music was never in the question. I even started taking piano lessons at age 7, but I never saw a future with it. The first time I ever tried to rap I was about 15/16 years young. I started going to parties over the years and starting cyphers with anyone who wanted to jump in until about age 19/20. Around that time of life, I recorded a few freestyles and released them on Soundcloud under the name “Grizz2Goofy”. They actually got a lot more attention than I anticipated and landed me an affiliation with a label, but unfortunately, that didn’t last long. Ever since I’ve been diving headfirst into production. I now make my own beats and have an entirely new perspective of making my music come to life. I now go by “GRIXXLY” and my next album, “Don’t Trip”, will be available July 15, 2022. This album is hands down some of the best material I’ve ever put together. From the lyrics to the beats, it’s all crispy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everybody struggles. It’s part of life. My struggle over the years would definitely be drugs. I never really noticed how much partying I was doing until I took a step away from it all. I never put any financial plans into my dreams. I have now been a year sober & counting!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As of right now, I am self-employed. I make my music & sell a skill toy called Kendama. I also run a small group here in Nashville called Kendama Nashville Tennessee. I still skateboard to this day as well. I think what sets me apart from others is my sound and style compared to other Nashville rap/hip hop artist. My soon-to-be-released material will for sure display my differences from other artist in Nashville, TN.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Hands down has to be loving myself and being my true self
