Conversations with Noah G.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah G.

Hi Noah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started writing music at 12 years old to cope with my parents’ divorce. At the time though I didn’t know that’s what I was doing. I was just trying to be the next Eminem haha. And since then, I’ve never really looked back. But I no longer wear valor sweatsuits or rap as much hah. I double-majored in music and acting at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles and lived in LA for about 7 years. I also lived in New York and India. But I was never able to find my home until I moved to Nashville which is where I am now. The community here is unlike any other and I am really enjoying writing music in the country world with lots of different artists.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Next to being a lawyer or a doctor, I’d say being a musician is the wisest career choice one can make, right? … Right? It has been the furthest thing from a smooth road which may be why I like writing about country dirt roads so much now haha. The hardest chapter in my life was when I was fired from my day job in Brooklyn, New York and I decided to live on unemployment and write music every day. It was the best and worst decision I could’ve made. My bank account went down to just about zero and I was sleeping on my cousin’s couch. But I taught myself the muscle, skill, and confidence to sit down and write a song from start to finish.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In all honestly, I’m not a big fan of questions like “What sets you apart?” It feels like it places me in competition with all the other musicians in the world and I’m really loving just collaborating and building other artists up. In terms of my work though I will say I strive to write creative, clever, and HONEST lyrics. Bob Dylan and Eminem were my first two big inspirations and their catalogue is largely based in great lyrics. I’m also a fan of lots of genres so I like to mix raw hip-hop with country music.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
