Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Gibney.
Hi Erin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began performing at 11 years old in my hometown of Southington, CT. I immediately fell in love with music and began writing my own songs shortly after. I stayed with writing songs throughout my teenage years and auditioned for shows like “American Idol” and “The Voice.” When I didn’t find success there, I decided to visit Nashville for the first time to record my first two songs. I decided after that trip that Nashville was the place I wanted to be, and at 18 I officially moved here! I have been here for four years, and in 2020, I had the incredible opportunity to sign as an artist on Rock Ridge Music’s management roster. I feel extremely grateful to have gotten to release two songs so far with them and am now excited to introduce my newest single, “Naive.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but all of the tough moments are what brought me here. When I moved to Nashville, I started attending Belmont University to get my degree in Music Business. I began working two jobs during school so I could have the funds to pursue music. There were times when my life felt extremely overwhelming and like the pressure was too much to handle. However, I was able to complete my degree in December and am now so much happier being able to fully go after my dreams after a difficult four years.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a pop-country singer-songwriter with influences from artists like Kelsea Ballerini, Taylor Swift, and Maren Morris. I think what sets me apart, and what sets every singer-songwriter apart, are the stories I have to tell through my music. I think every artist has unique stories to share that make them different from other artists.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have had a lot of people throughout my life who have played a big role in my music career. First are my parents. My dad is the one who taught me music at a young age and gave me my first guitar. My mom has always been my biggest support system and has been a listening ear through the hard times in my career. My sisters also played a big role and have been the ones to keep me grounded when things feel out of control. They are always my biggest cheerleaders, and I’m so thankful for how much support they have shown me. The last one is my first vocal coach, Dorothy. She always made me feel like my dreams were within reach and provided me with the tools to accomplish them. Without these people, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
