Community Highlights: Meet Arion Herbert of Main Attraction Recreational Sports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arion Herbert.

Hi Arion, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2016, my wife decided to start an Adult Sports League called MARS, which stands for Main Attraction Recreational Sports. The idea of starting this league derived from my best friend who at the time found himself heavily involved in Adult Kickball. Initially, my wife and I weren’t very interested in the idea of adult kickball, until we had an opportunity to witness how electrifying the sport really was.

Our local market didn’t offer anything like this, and that’s where we saw a real opportunity. We started off by inviting our friends, family, and coworkers to join us at the park for a few pick-up games as a way to generate interest. In just a few months, it quickly morphed into a fully functional 6-week league with players and teams from all around the city.

Our local league and social media soon began to grow organically, and we used that as leverage to evolve. We decided we wanted to offer kickball on a bigger stage. We created these kickball tournaments called Turf Wars, and invited teams from across the nation to travel and compete. The incentive for the teams competing was cash prizes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road traveled was far from easy. We struggled with selling the idea of adults playing kickball at a high level. In addition, we were a start-up organization with no previous history of facilitating these types of events.

In addition, we faced the challenge of competing against other established organizations with far more credibility. Building our foundation and finding our audience was extremely difficult.

We’ve been impressed with Main Attraction Recreational Sports LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Since 2016, our organization has been committed to offering each and every one of our participants sports and social experiences like none other. We welcome all athletic skill levels and promote an environment that allows all of our participants to connect both on and off the field of play.

We offer a variety of adult sports such as Dodgeball, Softball, Basketball, and our specialty is Kickball. We are most known for the National Kickball tournaments that we facilitate called Turf Wars. I believe that the quality of our events, along with the relationships that we’ve established with local businesses in the community truly set us apart from others.
