Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha Johnson.
Hi Trisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m your typical oldest sibling, latch-key kid from the 80s, born and forged right here in Nashville. My parents worked a lot, and my dad often spent his free time playing bass guitar in local bands, so a large part of my childhood was split between babysitting my siblings and/or being around musicians, in and out of bars, music venues, and various festivals. To put that into perspective, I received my first tattoo at 13 years old during a motorcycle convention.
After graduating high school, I moved out at 18, started waiting tables in Downtown Nashville, and was slinging drinks before my 21st birthday on Old Broadway – before Nashville grew into what she is today. Broadway saw me through most of my 20s: toxic relationships, long-term friendships, being the first in my family to graduate college (MTSU), and my wedding at 27.
Burnt out from the bar scene, degree in hand, my resume expanded into other fields. I spent several years working in tissue recovery for transplant, then moved into the classroom as a high school English teacher for MNPS, before landing in real estate.
Moving into real estate was a bittersweet decision for me. I’d always been fascinated by homes, buildings, function, design, and quality of craftsmanship. My earliest memories involve hanging out with my grandfather at his office or on a job site. Real estate, investing, and building was his thing. His hands touched a lot of homes and properties throughout Nashville and Middle TN until his death in the mid-1980s. When he passed, my familial connection to understanding the real estate business passed with him. It was only after the hubs and I bought a small hobby farm just outside of Nashville that I decided to pursue real estate as a career. Six years later, and I am thankful I took the leap of faith into this business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, but it’s been an adventure that led me to the life I have today. For that, I am grateful.
Generally, growing up when/where/how I grew up, I stood along the edge of a lot of adult situations and environments. I saw things I probably shouldn’t have. I learned to read people and situations. Over the years, I lost a lot of family and friends to drug addiction, violence, homelessness, and mental illness. I distinctly remember being at a high school event in Downtown Nashville and seeing a family member, almost completely unrecognizable from their struggle with addiction, living on the streets. As such, my desire to go to college started at a young age and was two-fold: I wanted to be the first one in my family to do it, and I wanted to study human behavior in an effort to better understand people and their motivations in order to figure out the best way to help them.
However, a misguided trip to New Orleans derailed my college aspirations the first time I enrolled and started at MTSU. As a first-generation college kid, I had no idea what I was doing. When I started school 3 years later, I was on academic probation, having to repeat and pay for my entire first semester of classes involving coursework I would no longer need. While I love learning, I struggled through my entire college experience between the commute, school, and work demands. When I walked the stage at graduation, I can safely say it took a village to get me there – special shout out to all of you who answered my calls of desperation at all hours of the day/night and talked me off the ledge of quitting. So. Many. Times. Thank you.
As you know, we’re big fans of Trisha Johnson, Realtor – Keller Williams Nashville Music City. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is real estate: I am a REALTOR®, and real estate investor. I’m focused on legacy building for both my family and the families I serve. I enjoy helping people work towards real estate ownership and building wealth for their families through the acquisition of real estate. My big career goals include working to create inventory within the affordable housing market and eventually be in a position which allows me to make a big impact on housing our un-housed population in a safe, structured, and supportive way.
While I love exploring the views and lifestyle of a high-rise condo overlooking the city, that isn’t my target market these days. I prefer hunting for older homes with character, new homes with incredible design features, and homes with land. I also enjoy and often work with clients and other investors looking to grow their portfolio of single-family homes and multi-family units, and take every opportunity I can to grow and learn in my field. One of my favorite things in this industry is watching an uninhabitable property go through the renovations needed to make it a safe, sound, and beautiful home for the next owner to enjoy.
I am known for being honest and straightforward in my approach when working with clients, and I will happily go the extra mile to make sure I am serving my clients and their families at the highest level I can. I am proud of the relationships I have built from working in this industry and strive to create long-term clients and friends. I am grateful that my clients trust me to get them home. The families and people I serve are much more than a transaction.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Like: food, art scene, music venues, the Preds, the ever-growing diversity of our city and surrounding communities, all of the waterways, parks, trails, greenspace, lakes, access to great hospitals, farmers markets, small business support, and hidden small towns full of charm and antique stores.
Dislike: Traffic, parking, potholes…so many potholes, y’all.
